DataWorks:Differences among DataWorks editions

Last Updated:Sep 29, 2024

DataWorks provides Basic Edition and three advanced editions: Standard Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition. The editions are sorted in ascending order based on the edition level. A higher level of edition provides more abundant features. You can read this topic to learn about the use scenarios of each edition and purchase an edition based on your business requirements. If the edition that you use does not meet your business requirements, you can upgrade or downgrade the edition.

Recommended use scenarios of each DataWorks edition

This section describes the features and recommended use scenarios of each DataWorks edition.

Note

For more information about features supported by each DataWorks edition, see the Feature comparison section in this topic.

DataWorks edition

Recommended use scenario

Basic Edition

  • After you purchase pay-as-you-go services and features of DataWorks, you can use DataWorks Basic Edition free of charge. DataWorks Basic Edition allows you to perform basic data migration operations, data development and scheduling, and simple data governance.

  • This edition is suitable for beginners and individual developers.

Standard Edition

  • In addition to the features that are provided by DataWorks Basic Edition, DataWorks Standard Edition provides more professional data governance features and the enhanced intelligent editor, data integration, and data baseline features.

  • This edition is suitable for small-sized teams.

Professional Edition

  • In addition to the features that are provided by DataWorks Standard Edition, DataWorks Professional Edition provides more professional data security features, enhanced data governance and data service features, sound data development and O&M features, and product-level data governance and data security solutions.

  • This edition is suitable for small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Enterprise Edition

  • In addition to the features that are provided by DataWorks Professional Edition, DataWorks Enterprise Edition provides end-to-end data governance capabilities, comprehensive data security capabilities, and customization capabilities of Open Platform to help implement centralized management of identities and permissions for multiple Alibaba Cloud accounts by using CloudSSO.

  • This edition is suitable for medium- and large-sized enterprises.

Purchase instructions

  • DataWorks Basic Edition is free of charge. DataWorks advanced editions are charged based on the subscription billing method. For more information, see Billing overview.

  • Only one DataWorks advanced edition can be purchased in a region at a time. You can purchase another edition in the same region only after the purchased edition expires and is released.

Edition upgrade and downgrade

DataWorks provides Basic Edition, Standard Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition. The editions are sorted in ascending order based on the edition level. A higher level of edition provides more abundant features. If the edition that you use does not meet your business requirements, you can upgrade or downgrade the edition based on your business requirements.

Impacts generated by an edition upgrade

You can upgrade your DataWorks service to a more advanced edition to use the features that are provided by the edition. An edition upgrade does not affect the tasks that are running. For information about the fees that are generated by an edition upgrade, see the Edition upgrade and downgrade section of the "Billing of DataWorks editions" topic.

Impacts generated by an edition downgrade

  • You can downgrade the edition of your DataWorks service. After the edition downgrade, you can no longer use the features that are provided by the original edition. For information about the fee refund that is generated by an edition downgrade, see the Edition upgrade and downgrade section of the "Billing of DataWorks editions" topic.

  • If your DataWorks Standard Edition, Professional Edition, or Enterprise Edition expires because you do not renew the edition in time, the edition is downgraded to Basic Edition after it expires. The edition downgrade does not affect the running of scheduling tasks that are created in the advanced edition, but you cannot access the DataWorks console. To access the console, you must purchase DataWorks Basic Edition. For more information about how to purchase DataWorks Basic Edition, see the Edition purchase section of the "Billing of DataWorks editions" topic.

  • After the edition of your DataWorks service is downgraded to Basic Edition upon expiration, you can no longer associate new data sources with DataStudio or disassociate existing data sources from DataStudio. For more information, see Feature downgrades of DataWorks advanced editions upon expiration.

  • If you still need to use Standard Edition, Professional Edition, or Enterprise Edition after the edition of your DataWorks service is downgraded to Basic Edition upon expiration, you can go to the DataWorks Edition (Subscription) page in the DataWorks console to purchase the desired advanced edition.

Entry point for performing an edition upgrade or downgrade

If the DataWorks edition that you use does not meet your business requirements, you can log on to the DataWorks console and go to the Purchased Resources and Services page to perform an edition upgrade or downgrade based on your business requirements.
