If you use Database Backup for the first time, you must grant the AliyunDBSDefaultRole permission to Database Backup (DBS) and activate Object Storage Service (OSS).

An Alibaba Cloud account is created. For more information, see Sign up with Alibaba Cloud.

Step 1: Grant the AliyunDBSDefaultRole permission

The AliyunDBSDefaultRole policy grants the default role of DBS permissions, which include part of the management permissions on services such as ApsaraDB RDS, Elastic Compute Service (ECS), ApsaraDB for Redis (Redis), ApsaraDB for MongoDB (MongoDB), and PolarDB. For more information about the permissions, see the definition of the policy AliyunDBSRolePolicy.

  1. Log on to the DBS console.
  2. In the Information message, click Activate RAM Now.
Note If no dialog boxes appear to prompt you to obtain authorization when you log on to the DBS console, you can skip the steps described in this topic. You can start to purchase a backup schedule and configure the backup schedule. For more information, see Purchase a backup schedule and Configure a backup schedule.
  3. In the Cloud Resource Access Authorization message, click Confirm Authorization Policy.

Step 2: Activate OSS

No fees are incurred when you activate OSS. After you activate OSS, the backup data generated by DBS is stored in OSS.

  1. Log on to the DBS console.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, click Activate OSS Now.
  3. In the dialog box that appears, click Activate Now.
  4. On the OSS page, read and select the service agreement and click Activate Now.
    Now, you have activated DBS.
