Data Management:Use storage plans

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2025

Data Disaster Recovery provides subscription storage plans to help you reduce storage costs. After purchase, you can use the storage plans to offset fees without the need to configure storage plans in advance. This topic describes how to purchase and use storage plans.

Background information

You do not need to manually configure storage space for Data Disaster Recovery. Storage space is automatically scaled based on the amount of stored data. You need only to pay for the amount of storage space that is actually consumed. To store large amounts of data, we recommend that you use subscription storage plans because they are more cost-effective than pay-as-you-go storage. Larger discounts are provided for storage plans of higher storage capacities. For more information, see Comparison between storage plans and pay-as-you-go storage.

The following three types of storage plans are available in Data Disaster Recovery:

  • CDM sandbox storage plans

CDM sandbox storage plans are used to offset the fees incurred for your account when you use sandbox storage. For more information about the billing of sandbox storage, see Sandbox fees.

  • Backup instance storage plans

Backup instance storage plans are used to offset built-in storage fees for backup schedules within the Alibaba Cloud account that purchases the storage plans.

  • Database backup storage plans

Database backup storage plans are used to offset the pay-as-you-go storage fees of ApsaraDB RDS databases and ApsaraDB for MongoDB databases within the Alibaba Cloud account that purchases the storage plans.

Usage notes

  • You can purchase and combine multiple storage plans. For example, two 1 TB storage plans are equivalent to one 2 TB storage plan.

  • After a backup storage plan is purchased, its specification cannot be changed.

  • If storage plans are exhausted, fees incurred by extra storage are charged on a pay-as-you-go basis.

  • Storage plans automatically become invalid when they expire.
