Data Management:Delete backup sets

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2026

Each time a data source runs a backup, a backup set is generated. Delete data backup sets to reduce backup storage costs.

Limitations

Log backup sets cannot be deleted. The following constraints apply to log backups:

  • Log backup is enabled by default and cannot be disabled.

  • Log backup sets are retained for 30 days. The retention period cannot be changed.

Warning

Deletion is permanent. A deleted backup set cannot be restored.

Data backup sets that are automatically generated or generated when you manually initiate a backup task can be deleted.

  1. Log on to the DMS console V5.0.

  2. In the top navigation bar, choose Security and Specifications (DBS) > Disaster Recovery for Data (DBS) > Disaster Recovery Data Source.

If you use the DMS console in simple mode, move the pointer over the 2023-01-28_15-57-17.png icon in the upper-left corner and choose All Features > Security and Specifications (DBS) > Disaster Recovery for Data (DBS) > Disaster Recovery Data Source.
  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region, then click the ID of the data source to open the Data Source Details page.

  4. Navigate to the backup set based on your database type:

    • Alibaba Cloud databases: On the Backup Data page, click the Logical Backup tab, then find the backup set.

    • Self-managed databases (ECS-hosted, on-premises, or third-party cloud databases with automatic backup enabled): On the Data Backup page, find the data set.

  5. Click Edit in the Actions column.

  6. In the message that appears, click Delete.
