It is expected that on June 30, 2025 (UTC+8), Alibaba Cloud will release the updated Alibaba Cloud DNS console and the brand-new DNS firewall feature, and apply the pay-as-you-go billing method to the service.

It is expected that by April 30, 2026 (UTC+8), Alibaba Cloud DNS will switch the original product code of DNS customers who have enabled the public DNS feature to the pay-as-you-go product code of Alibaba Cloud DNS.

Content

To continuously improve service experience and capabilities, Alibaba Cloud plans to update the Alibaba Cloud DNS console on June 30, 2025 (UTC+8). This update will not affect your use of the service or the effectiveness of DNS resolution. This update includes the following aspects:

1. Update of the Alibaba Cloud DNS console

All log-related services in Alibaba Cloud DNS will be aggregated into one log service. The DNS traffic analysis feature of all modules in Alibaba Cloud DNS will be updated to a data analysis dashboard. The new DNS firewall feature will detect threat domain names for the recursive resolution traffic of public DNS and private DNS to improve domain name access security.

2. The use of the pay-as-you-go billing method

The features such as authoritative DNS resolution within public DNS, Global Traffic Manager (GTM), and recursive resolution within public DNS will be billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method to help you save costs. After you configure the pay-as-you-go service, the service is automatically activated. You do not need to pay for the service if you do not configure it. You can rest assured to experience the service and stop using it any time. In the bill, the billable item name of Alibaba Cloud DNS will be changed into "Alibaba Cloud DNS (pay-as-you-go)". In the product code, the billable item name of traffic analysis is changed from "authoritative DNS requests" to "public DNS resolution - resolved log entries of traffic analysis".

It is expected that from April 30, 2026 (UTC+8), new users of public DNS (product code: dns_pubdns_public_intl) will be billed based on the new product code.

In the new product code, the unit price for UDP or TCP-based DNS resolution traffic is USD 0.004/10,000 counts. In the original product code (dns_pubdns_public_intl), the unit price for UDP or TCP-based DNS resolution traffic is USD 0.0031/10,000 counts. In the new and original product code (dns_pubdns_public_intl), the unit price for HTTP, HTTPS, DoH or DoT-based DNS resolution traffic is USD 0.0062/10,000 counts.
