Alibaba Cloud Major Milestones

August 2017
Gang Wang, a leading researcher at Alibaba A.I. Labs, and Hanqing Wu, Chief Security Scientist of Alibaba Cloud, were recognized in the "MIT Technology Review's 2017 Innovators Under 35" List. Wang was recognized for his contributions to speech recognition and natural language processing exemplified by Tmall Genie, the very first voice-controlled smart device produced by Alibaba A.I. Labs. Wu was recognized for his work in designing the security architecture of Apsara, including a unique DDoS mitigation solution that has broken records in DDoS attack defense.

At its Computing Conference in Shanghai, Alibaba Cloud announced plans to establish two new data centers in Mumbai, India and Jakarta, Indonesia. The two new data centers will significantly increase its computing resources in Asia, allowing greater support for small and medium enterprises throughout the region.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Alibaba and the International Olympic Committee announced that Alibaba will become the official Cloud Services and Cloud Infrastructure provider for the Olympics. Alibaba will contribute cloud computing infrastructure and cloud services to help the Olympic Games operate more efficiently, effectively and securely, including supporting big data analytics.
