If you need to store a large amount of data that is infrequently accessed, you can configure lifecycle management policies to use the IA storage class. The data can be images, videos, backups, logs, and more. You can configure a lifecycle management policy for each directory in a file system. Files in the directory that are not accessed for a certain period of time are identified as cold data based on the policy. The cold data is then transitioned to the IA storage class. The period of time is specified in the policy, and can be 14, 30, 60, or 90 days. Compared with the NAS Performance storage class, the IA storage class reduces the cost by 92%, and allows users to reduce the TCO of NAS. However, the IA storage class is applicable only to POSIX-compliant file systems.
