Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) features - Cloud Storage Gateway

Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) offers two types of gateways: file gateways and iSCSI gateways. Each gateway type comes in multiple specifications. This topic describes the features supported by each gateway specification.

File gateways

A file gateway supports two file sharing protocols: Network File System (NFS) and Server Message Block (SMB). Both protocols are used to transfer files over a local area network (LAN).

NFS is primarily used for file system access on UNIX-like operating systems, such as AIX, HP-UX, and various Linux distributions.
SMB is primarily used for file system access on Windows operating systems.

iSCSI gateways

An iSCSI gateway provides block-level storage access through the iSCSI protocol. iSCSI is a storage technology based on the SCSI-3 protocol that works over IP networks. It is compatible with both Windows and UNIX-like operating systems.
