Cloud Storage Gateway:Enable transfer acceleration

Last Updated:Jun 20, 2026

Placing a file gateway and an OSS bucket in different regions significantly reduces upload speeds. Transfer acceleration boosts cross-region upload speeds to OSS by using the gateway's public bandwidth. This topic describes how to enable transfer acceleration for a share.

Prerequisites

Before you enable transfer acceleration, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  1. A file gateway is created and a cache is added.

  2. An OSS Bucket is created.

  3. The target OSS bucket must have transfer acceleration enabled. This bucket-level setting is independent of the share-level setting and is not automatically synchronized.

  4. The share must be bound to an OSS bucket in a different region. To do this, you must select cross-region binding when creating the share.

Considerations

  • Configure for each share individually: Transfer acceleration must be enabled for each share separately, as batch enabling is not supported.

  • Dependency on the OSS bucket setting: Transfer acceleration for a share only takes effect if it is also enabled for the corresponding OSS bucket.

  • No automatic inheritance: Enabling transfer acceleration for an OSS bucket does not automatically enable it for bound shares; you must configure each share separately.

Enable transfer acceleration

Method 1: Enable when creating a share

  1. Log on to the Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) console. On the Gateways page, find and click the target file gateway. On the Shares tab, click Create.

  2. In the Bucket Settings step, select cross-region binding.

  3. In the Advanced Settings step, enable transfer acceleration.

    Note

The transfer acceleration option is only available if you select Bucket Settings in the Bucket Settings step.

After the share is created, on the Shares page, click the + icon to the left of the share and verify that the transfer acceleration field shows Enabled.

Method 2: Enable for an existing share

  1. Log on to the Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) console. On the Gateways page, find and click the target file gateway.

  2. On the Shares tab, find the target share, and in the Actions column, click Advanced Settings.

  3. On the NFS Share Advanced Settings or SMB Share Advanced Settings page, enable transfer acceleration.

    Note

This option is only available if cross-region binding was selected in the Bucket Settings step when the share was created.

  4. To verify the change, click the + icon to the left of the share and confirm that the transfer acceleration field shows Enabled.
