Cloud Storage Gateway:Configure a public bandwidth limit

Last Updated:Mar 25, 2025

This topic describes how to configure a public bandwidth limit for a file gateway in the Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) console.

Background information

Public bandwidth is the network bandwidth consumed for access to buckets in different regions over the Internet. Higher public network bandwidth enables faster data transfers. When you create a gateway that connects to a bucket in the same region as the gateway, you do not need to configure the public bandwidth. When you create a gateway that connects to a bucket in a different region, you need to configure a proper public network bandwidth allocation to ensure the quality of data transfers.

  • You can configure public bandwidth only for file gateways that are deployed on Alibaba Cloud.

  • You can configure public bandwidth when you create a file gateway. The default bandwidth allocation is 5 Mbit/s.

  • You can increase the public bandwidth of a file gateway on the Gateways page.

  • You are charged the following network traffic fees when you use CSG:

    1. If your gateway bandwidth exceeds the free public bandwidth quota, you are charged for additional bandwidth usage. For more information, see Billable items and billing methods.

    2. You are also charged for accessing OSS resources. The fees are included in your OSS bills. For more information, see Traffic fees.

Method 1

Procedure

  1. On the Gateways page of the CSG console, find the gateway and click More > Upgrade Network Bandwidth.

  2. In the Upgrade Network Bandwidth dialog box, adjust the bandwidth.

    Note

The maximum public bandwidth cannot exceed 200 Mbit/s and the minimum public bandwidth cannot be lower than the existing bandwidth allocation. The bandwidth allocation is 5 Mbit/s.

Method 2

When you create a gateway, in the Config Protocol step of the Create Gateway wizard, select Yes for Cross-region Binding, and configure the Public Network Bandwidth parameter. For more information, see Manage file gateways.

Note

The default bandwidth allocation is 5 Mbit/s, which is also the minimum bandwidth. The maximum bandwidth that you can specify is 200 Mbit/s.
