Cloud Storage Gateway:Manage a cache disk

Last Updated:Jun 18, 2024

This topic describes how to manage a cache disk in the Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) console. For example, you can attach a cache disk and increase cache disk capacity.

Prerequisites

A cloud file gateway is created. For more information, see Create a file gateway.

Background information

Each share of a file gateway has a unique cache disk. To create multiple shares, you must create the same number of cache disks for the shares. You can upload data from a share to the associated Object Storage Service (OSS) bucket or use the share to download data from the OSS bucket to a local disk.

Note

The operations described in this topic apply only to file gateways deployed in Alibaba Cloud. If you need to attach cache disks to on-premises file gateways, you must use the on-premises console. For more information, see Add disks.

Attach a cache disk

  1. Log on to the CSG console.

  2. At the top of the page, select the region where the file gateway resides.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Gateways. On the page that appears, locate the file gateway and click the ID of the file gateway.

  4. In the left-side navigation pane, click Cache. On the Cache page, click Create Cache.

  5. In the Add Cache dialog box, configure the following parameters:

    • Capacity: the size of the cache disk that you want to create. Valid values: 40 GB to 32 TB.

    • Type: Select Ultra Disk, Standard SSD, or ESSD based on your business requirements.

    Note
    • The maximum cache capacity for a Basic file gateway is 1 TB. A Basic file gateway does not support PL3 ESSD cache disks.

    • The maximum cache capacity for a Standard file gateway is 2 TB.

  6. Click OK.

If you add a cache disk to a Subscription gateway, you are redirected to the cache disk purchase page. For more information, see Purchase a cache disk.

Increase cache disk capacity

You can increase cache disk capacity for a file gateway.

On the Cache page, find the cache disk and click the + icon in the Actions column.

  5. In the Scale Up Cache dialog box, set the new size of the cache disk, and then click OK.

    Note

When you increase the cache disk capacity, the limit on the new capacity varies with the edition of the gateway.

    • Basic: The new capacity must be greater than the current capacity and less than or equal to 1,024 GB.

    • Standard: The new capacity must be greater than the current capacity and less than or equal to 2,048 GB.

    • Enhanced or Performance Optimized: The new capacity must be greater than the current capacity and less than or equal to 32,768 GB.

If the file gateway uses the subscription billing method, you are redirected to the cache disk buy page after you click OK. On the buy page, change the cache capacity to the expected size and complete the payment. Cache scaling is automatically performed after you complete the payment.

For example, if the current cache disk is an ESSD PL1 cache disk and you want to increase the cache capacity from the current size of 100 GB to 200 GB, change the cache capacity of the ESSD PL1 cache disk to 200 GB and complete the payment.
