    This topic explains how to add and expand a cache in the Cloud Storage Gateway console.

    Prerequisites

    A file gateway must be created. For more information, see Manage File Gateways.

    Background information

    Each share in a file gateway corresponds to a unique cache disk. If you create multiple shares, you must create an equal number of cache disks. A cache disk uploads data from a share to OSS and synchronizes data from OSS to local storage.

    Add a cache

    1. On the Gateway List page, find and click the target file gateway. Then, click the Cache > Create Cache.

    2. Choose a method and configure the cache.

      2. Custom cache

        Manually set the cache size and type to meet specific needs.

        • Set the cache type to ESSD with a performance level of PL1.

        • The cache space limits the total size of data that you can write concurrently.

          Important

          If the total amount of data being written to the cache disk exceeds the high watermark (80% of capacity), it triggers a throttling alarm, and write operations may fail.

          For example, if you configure a 100 GB cache disk, the effective data cache space is 80 GB. For optimal write performance, the total size of concurrently written files should be less than 64 GB:

          • A 100 GB file cannot be written because its size exceeds the available data cache space.

          • For 10 GB files, write no more than 6 files concurrently.

          • For 1 GB files, write no more than 64 files concurrently.

        • Reading files of any size is not limited by the data cache space.

    Note

    • Cache size

      The supported cache disk capacity range varies by gateway edition:

      • Basic gateway: 40 GB to 4,096 GB.

      • Standard gateway: 40 GB to 8,192 GB.

      • Enhanced and performance gateways: 40 GB to 32,768 GB.

    • Cache type

      Only ESSDs are supported, with performance levels PL1, PL2, and PL3. Choose a level based on your performance requirements. For more information, see ESSD.

    If you are using a subscription file gateway, you will be redirected to the Purchase Cache page after creating the cache. You must complete the payment to activate the cache service.

    Expand a cache

    You can expand a cache disk.

    1. On the Gateways page, click the target file gateway and then click the Cache tab.

    2. On the Cache page, find the target cache disk, click the + icon, and set the new cache capacity.

      Note

      • The new capacity must be within the following ranges:

        • Basic gateway: greater than the current capacity and less than or equal to 4,096 GB.

        • Standard gateway: greater than the current capacity and less than or equal to 8,192 GB.

        • Enhanced and Performance Optimized gateways: greater than the current capacity and less than or equal to 32,768 GB.

    If you use a Subscription file gateway, after clicking OK, you are redirected to the cache disk purchase page. On the purchase page, change the cache disk size to the desired capacity and complete the payment. The expansion begins automatically after payment is complete.

    For example, to expand a 100 GB ESSD PL1 cache disk to 200 GB, simply change the ESSD (PL1) cache size to 200 GB on the purchase page.
