1. What is the duration of the ECS Cloud Server new users special offer?
- This offer is available from September 15th, 2020 to 24:00 March 31st, 2021 (UTC+8).
2. What are the details of the ECS Cloud Server new users special offer?
- a. This offer is only applicable to new users.
b. Each user can only claim the monthly-paid offer once and the annual-paid offer once.
c. This offer is only applicable to the fee for an instance in the first month (or first year). You will be charged at the list price from the next month (or next year) onwards.
d. New users who subscribe to the monthly payment package can purchase up to three instances (one-time purchase); new users who subscribe to the annual payment package can purchase up to one instance.
e. This offer is applicable to all data center regions excluding Dubai, Ulanqab, and Heyuan region.
f. 1, 3, 5 Mbps bandwidth options are available for each spec (excluding 1 core 512 MB instance).
g. This offer is only available for the first-time purchase of ECS. Accounts with ECS purchase history do not qualify for this offer.
h. Users who are using Alibaba Cloud through an agency, reseller, and distributor are not eligible for this offer.
i. This offer is only applicable to ECS t5 instance types with specs equivalent to or lower than 4 vCPUs -16GB (ecs.t5-c1m4.xlarge or lower).
3. What is a cloud server instance?
- A cloud server instance is a virtual machine that contains basic computing components such as the vCPU, memory, operating system, network, and disk. You can fully customize and modify all configurations of an instance.
4. What is Elastic Compute Service (ECS)?
- Alibaba Cloud Elastic Compute Service (ECS) provides elastic and secure virtual cloud servers to cater all your cloud hosting needs. Its fast memory and the latest Intel CPUs be able to achieve faster results with low latency. Deploy ECS instances with just a few clicks from the easy-to-use console and scale capacity up or down based on real-time demands. For more information, see ECS.
5. What is an enhanced SSD (ESSD)?
- An enhanced SSD is an ultra-high performance disk provided by Alibaba Cloud. Enhanced SSDs use 25 GE networks and the remote direct memory access (RDMA) technology to deliver up to 1 million random IOPS with low one-way latency. For more information, see Enhanced SSD (ESSD).
6. What is regions and zones?
- Regions in Alibaba Cloud are independent. Zones in Alibaba Cloud are completely isolated. However, zones in the same region are connected through links with low latency. For more information, see Regions and zones.
7. What is a Snapshot?
- Snapshots are used to back up the data of disks at one or more points in time. Snapshots ensure service security and improve application deployment efficiency. The first snapshot created for a disk is a full snapshot. All subsequent snapshots created after the first snapshot are incremental snapshots. For more information, see Snapshot concepts.
8. What are the IP addresses of ECS instances within VPCs?
- IP addresses are used for access to ECS instances or to the services deployed on the instances. ECS instances within VPCs can be assigned two types of IP addresses: private IP addresses and public IP addresses. For more information, see Instance IP addresses.
9. What is a Resource Access Management (RAM)?
- Alibaba Cloud Resource Access Management (RAM) is an identity and access control service which enables you to centrally manage your users (including employees, systems or applications) and securely control their access to your resources through permission levels. RAM thereby allows you to securely grant access permissions for Alibaba Cloud resources to only your selected high-privileged users, enterprise personnel and partners. This helps to ensure secure and appropriate usage of your cloud resources and protects from any unsolicited access to your account. For more information, see Resource Access Management.
10. How is ECS billed?
- ECS instances support the following billing methods:
1. Reserved Instances: Alibaba Cloud Reserved Instance is a reservation of resources and capacity, it provide a significant discount (up to 79%) compared to standard pricing and provide a capacity reservation when used in a specific Availability Zone;
2. Pay-As-You-Go: It will be charged for the exact amount of resources you use. You can activate or release resources at any time with no hardware or maintenance costs;
3. Subscription: Subscription fees are lower on average than that of Pay-As-You-Go, and suited for those requiring long-term resources at reduced cost.

11. What is Reserved Instances?
- A reserved instance is a discount coupon that can be applied automatically to one or more pay-as-you-go instances, excluding preemptible instances. A reserved instance can also be used to reserve instance resources. A combination of reserved and pay-as-you-go instances provides similar cost-effectiveness to subscription instances but with a higher degree of flexibility. 12. How can I migrate my server to cloud?
- Alibaba Cloud Server Migration Center (SMC) is a migration service that helps you migrate your workloads from your on-premises data center or a third-party cloud virtual machine to an Alibaba Cloud Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance. See here to find out more details.
