Introduction:
Recently, Gartner officially released the Magic Quadrant for Distributed Hybrid Infrastructure report, with 10 vendors recognized worldwide. Alibaba Cloud has been positioned into the Niche Players Quadrant and has achieved the highest position for 'Ability to Execute' and the furthest position for 'Completeness of Vision' among all Asia-Pacific vendors.
In Gartner’s critical capabilities assessment, Alibaba Cloud maintained high scores in both 'Container Deployment' and 'AI and GenAI Workloads,' ranking among the top tier of all evaluated vendors. The achievements underscore Alibaba Cloud’s substantial investment in open-source large models and AI development platforms, as well as the significant outcomes delivered by its industry-specific models within hybrid cloud environments.
Gartner defines distributed hybrid infrastructure (DHI) are solutions incorporating cloud-native infrastructure principles (e.g., programmability, elasticity, modularity and resiliency). DHI can be deployed and managed, delivering cloud services wherever the customer chooses, including on-premises, at the colocation, at the edge or in the public cloud. This flexibility sets DHI apart from traditional public cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS), which typically relies on a centralized approach. Vendors fall into three categories, with distinct strategies: cloud platform providers, full stack hyperconverged vendors and software infrastructure platform providers. Their offerings include software and/or integrated hardware with a unified management and control plane.
CPaaS Architecture: A Four-Layer Framework from Channels to Solutions
We feel A key driver behind Alibaba Cloud’s recognition as a Visionary is its CPaaS architecture, which is full-stack, from the underlying communication protocols to upper layer AI applications. Alibaba Cloud Communications has built a four-layer product system spanning foundational channels, access protocols, modular capabilities, and industry solutions:
●Core Communications Layer: Delivers essential communication capabilities with global reach, such as voice, SMS, and RCS, and across major social messaging channels such as WhatsApp and Instagram.
●Access Layer: Supports multiple mainstream access protocols including HTTP, SMPP, SDK, and SIP, and now MCP
●Foundational Solutions Layer: Abstracts underlying capabilities into modular components such as AI Flow, Chat Flow, and number verification services
●Industry Solutions Layer: Provides end-to-end communication solutions tailored to vertical scenarios such as e-commerce, logistics, and financial services.
Underpinned by Alibaba Cloud's global infrastructure across 29 regions, 94 availability zones, and coverage in over 200 countries and regions, this architecture enables enterprises to have flexibility with regards to the level of integration depth — from low-level APIs to high-level, scenario-driven solutions.
AI Capability Matrix: From "Add-On Features" to "Native Integration"
Built on this four-layer architecture, Alibaba Cloud Communications CPaaS embeds AI capabilities throughout the entire stack, forming a capability matrix that spans process orchestration, content generation, voice interaction, marketing decision-making, and security detection.
●AI Process Orchestration (AI Flow): Enables enterprises to rapidly build intelligent communication workflows through natural language descriptions. Without writing code, businesses can create automated conversational and service flows with built-in cross-channel intelligence, allowing the system to select the optimal engagement channel — such as SMS, WhatsApp, Viber, or any other communications channels — based on user profiles and context, while supporting rich media delivery.
●AI Intelligent Voice: The intelligent contact center integrates large language model capabilities, offering two deployment modes — "Communication Intelligence Engine (PaaS)" and "Communication Agent (MaaS)" — covering the full stack from underlying infrastructure to upper-layer applications. Enterprises can seamlessly integrate their own or third-party large language models, enabling rapid deployment of text-based AI agents into outbound AI calling workflows within a single day. Alternatively, they can adopt Alibaba Cloud's fully managed, end-to-end solution for a hands-off experience.
●AI Content Generation & Optimization: Automates the creation and refinement of message templates. The system automatically recommends optimal message templates based on specific business scenarios, improving delivery efficiency and driving higher user engagement rates.
Looking ahead, Alibaba Cloud Communications will continue to deepen its investment in AI Native and Agent Native capabilities, advancing intelligence across the platform, from underlying architecture to upper-layer use cases. Be it for enterprises expanding globally, e-commerce and logistics players, fintech innovators, or organizations seeking to reshape customer engagement through AI, Alibaba Cloud CPaaS offers solutions purpose-built for diverse business scenarios.
