What should I do if the speed of performing operations on the server after connecting to a Windows Server 2003 instance remotely is slow?

When remotely connecting to a Windows Server 2003 instance, it is normal to log in to the server using VNC, but when logging in to the server using other remote connection methods, the speed of opening programs and browsing websites is slow. This article introduces the solution in this scenario.

Problem Description

When connecting to a Windows Server 2003 instance remotely, it is normal to use VNC to log in to the server, but when using other remote connection methods to log in to the server, the speed of opening programs and browsing websites is slow.

Problem Causes

The Offload.Tx.LSO parameter of the network card is enabled to cause this problem.

Solution

You can choose any of the following solutions to deal with this problem according to the actual situation, as follows:

Solution 1: Replace the operating system

Alibaba Cloud no longer supports Windows Server 2003 system images. For more information, see the introduction of Alibaba Cloud no longer supporting Windows Server 2003 system images. Therefore, it is recommended that you use Windows Server 2012 and later versions of the Windows operating system to avoid this problem. For details about how to replace the operating system of an instance, see Replacing the Operating System (System Disk).

Warning The essence of replacing the operating system is to replace the system disk. After the operating system is replaced, the original old system disk will be released and all data on the system disk will be cleared. Please create a snapshot backup data for the system disk before replacing the operating system, and then perform operations. For more information on creating snapshots, see Snapshot overview.

Solution 2: Change the Offload.Tx.LSO parameter of the network card to Disabled
You need to change the Offload.Tx.LSO parameter of the network card to Disabled, and the operation steps are as follows:

1. Remotely connect to the ECS instance.

2. Open Control Panel and select Network and Internet.

3. Click View Network Status and Tasks, and then click Change Adapter Settings in the left navigation bar.

4. Select the corresponding network card, right-click, and select Properties > Configure.

5. Click the Advanced tab to configure Offload.Tx.LSO parameters.

You need to first select Offload.Tx.LS in the property list, then select the value as Disabled.

6. Click OK to save the configuration.
