Configure monitoring and alerting in Log Service

Log Service is a cloud-native observability and analytics platform that provides large-scale, low-cost, and real-time services to process multiple types of data such as logs, metrics, and traces. Log Service allows you to collect, process, query, analyze, visualize, ship, and consume data. You can also configure alert rules in the console. Log Service helps you improve digital capabilities in R&D, O&M, and data security.

Prerequisites

Before you start, you will need:

  • An Alibaba Cloud account. For more information about how to create an account, see Sign up with Alibaba Cloud.

  • A Logstore that contains data. For more information about how to create a Logstore, see Getting Started.

Instructions

This tutorial describes how to configure an alert rule and send alert notifications to users. In the example, Log Service is used to monitor the number of data entries whose key is acookieId. If the number of such data entries exceeds 1,000 in 15 minutes, Log Service sends alert notifications to users.

Step 1: Select the metric to be monitored

a. Find the Logstore whose data you want to analyze, and click the Search & Analysis icon, as shown in the following figure.

b. Find the metric that you want to monitor, click the value of the metric, and then click the imageicon on the right of Add to Query, as shown in the following figure. In this example, the data whose key is acookieId is selected.

Step 2: Configure an alert rule

a. Click the imageicon and select New Version Alert in the drop-down list, as shown in the following figure.

b. In the Alert Rules panel, configure the Rule Name, Check Frequency, and Trigger Condition parameters, as shown in the following figure.

Step 3: Configure the notification method

a. In the Alert Rules panel, set the Alert Policy parameter to Simple Mode, and configure the notification methods. You can set the Notification Method parameter to SMS Message, Email, or others.

b. Configure the Recipient Type, Recipient, Alert Template, and Period parameters.

c. After the configuration is complete, click OK.image

Step 4: Manage alert rules

Click Manage to go to the Alert Center page, and then view or manage the alert rules, as shown in the following figures. image

Congratulations!

You have added a monitored object and configured an alert rule for the object. Log Service helps you easily configure monitoring and alerting policies for your applications.
