Alibaba Group has been recognized by TIME as one of the 10 Most Influential AI Companies of 2026, hailed for building a full-stack AI presence rooted in open-source leadership.
This honor is part of the inaugural TIME100 Companies: Industry Leaders lists, which spotlight companies shaping 20 key sectors. Alongside AI pioneers such as OpenAI, Alphabet, and Anthropic.
TIME noted that, in less than three years, Alibaba has become “a dominant force in open-source AI,” with its Qwen model series gaining traction well beyond China, supporting operations at global companies like Airbnb and Pinterest. TIME referred to Qwen as “the world’s most popular open-source model family.”
The publication also highlighted Alibaba’s push to “turn its open-model lead into a full-stack AI empire,” scaling its cloud infrastructure, developing proprietary AI chips and consumer applications, and offering agentic, hosted models to enterprise clients.
Alibaba’s placement among TIME’s AI Industry Leaders comes as it advances its position across the full AI stack—from chips and cloud infrastructure to models and applications. Among other recent developments, the company has made significant strides in specialized models, launching HappyOyster, a world model product, and HappyHorse 1.0, a video generation model. On the application side, Alibaba has forged new partnerships to expand agentic AI’s everyday applications, elevating airline experiences and enhancing intelligent cockpit systems.
