Kuala Lumpur, June 13, 2023 – Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group today announced its collaboration with Agmo Holdings Berhad (Agmo), a homegrown digital solutions specialist in Malaysia, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), as both parties jointly launched the Agmo Electric Vehicle (“EV”) SuperApp, the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia. The event was marked by a “twin-first”, as Alibaba Cloud successfully debuted its latest Enterprise Mobile Application Studio (EMAS) Superapp solution outside of China.
Derived from Alibaba Cloud’s proven experience in the e-commerce industry and scalable cloud infrastructure, the EMAS Superapp Solution is a full-stack platform for building superapps and related ecosystems. The solution provides various capabilities to help enterprises build a superapp with a rich ecosystem, including components for app infrastructure and business features, containers for running mini apps, and platforms for mini app development and operation easily and safely.
Leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s proven solution and advanced cloud technology, the newly launched Agmo EV SuperApp is designed as a platform to provide a one-stop EV solutions centre that essentially facilitates the onboarding and incorporation of several automotive industry and ecosystem mini apps. The Agmo EV Superapp aims to address domestic EV users’ pain points and boost EV adoption by enabling an intuitive and seamless user experience.

In the presence of YB Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) , the MOU exchange ceremony between both parties marks the official launch of Agmo EV SuperApp and Agmo as the first international customer of Alibaba Cloud EMAS Superapp – with the sole intention of addressing the pain points faced by local EV users.
"The Malaysian automotive sector is currently witnessing a surge in Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption by our fellow citizens, driven by a combination of government-led initiatives and value-driven offerings from international manufacturers. We applaud the collaborative efforts of Alibaba Cloud and our homegrown institution, Agmo, as they play a pivotal role in developing innovative solutions within an industry that holds immense significance for end-users, particularly the people of Malaysia. Through their contributions, we are advancing our nation towards becoming a high-tech hub through science and technology," remarked YB Chang Lih Kang in his speech officiating the partnership.

Kun Huang, General Manager of Malaysia, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said: “Technology has become a fundamental tool for organisations to stay competitive and innovative. Building on this collaboration, it is a great honour to see Agmo as the first international customer of EMAS Superapp solution to drive the EV evolution by adopting our cutting-edge technological superiority. The EV SuperApp built based on our advanced cloud technology and digital solution can be easily interconnected with our mature superapp ecosystems, which can unlock infinite business possibilities and bring seamless experience for the local users.”
Taking into account the existing and anticipated challenges faced by EV users, as well as the rapid EV adoption rate in the local arena, Agmo has created a groundbreaking concept that aims to help Malaysian EV motorists overcome critical pain points like charging point types, rates and access all in one platform. Thanks to Alibaba Cloud’s cutting-edge solution, the concept has come to fruition. With the expected increase in the availability of mini apps on the superapp platform, cloud resource consumption is also projected to ramp up in tandem.
“The launch of Agmo EV SuperApp, which specifically addresses the commercial viability of EV-related solutions, marks an important milestone under Agmo’s ongoing strategy in expediting the nation’s transition towards electric mobility, especially given the ever-present issue of ‘range anxiety’ amongst EV drivers. Hence, the technical integration of the EMAS Superapp by Alibaba Cloud is crucial in realising our goal of creating a solution that drives positivity through to the growing EV community as they’ve developed a workable, easy-to-use solution that allowed us to bring our concept to market,” said Agmo Holdings Berhad CEO, Tan Aik Keong.
The freshly inked collaboration further aligns both Alibaba Cloud and Agmo commitments in assisting Malaysia to become a high-value-added economy by providing a conducive environment throughout its digitalisation journey by means of advanced technologies and streamlined solutions. Agmo fully supports the Malaysian Government’s target, via the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint, to install 10,000 public charging stations for EVs in Malaysia by 2025.
As one of the world’s leading cloud service providers, Alibaba Cloud boasts a network of 88 availability zones in 29 regions across the globe, offering a highly secure, scalable, robust cloud infrastructure to support global customers embracing digital innovation. It is also the first global cloud provider with local data centres in Malaysia since 2017. It launched its first cloud-based Anti-DDos Scrubbing Centre in Malaysia in 2018 serving the region.
