You can create only one transit router in each region. A transit router is used to forward data within the same region or across different regions.

Background information

You can use one of the following methods to create a Basic Edition transit router or an Enterprise Edition transit router:
  • Automatic creation
The first time you connect a Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) instance to a network instance, such as a virtual private cloud (VPC), a virtual border router (VBR), or a Cloud Connect Network (CCN) instance, in a region, the system automatically creates a transit router in the region. The system automatically recognizes the edition of the transit router based on the region. For more information about how to connect a CEN instance to VPCs, VBRs, and CCN instances, see the following topics:

For more information about the regions and zones that support Basic Edition and Enterprise Edition transit routers, see Transit router editions.

  • Manual creation

You can manually create a transit router by following the procedure described in this topic. For more information, see Create a transit router.

Note Before you create a VPN connection, you must create a transit router.

Create a transit router

  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page, find the CEN instance that you want to manage and click the instance ID.
  3. On the Basic Settings > Transit Router tab, click Create Transit Router.
  4. In the Create Transit Router dialog box, set the following parameters and click OK.
    Parameter Description
Region Select the region where you want to create the transit router.
Edition The edition of the transit router is displayed.

The system displays the transit router edition that is supported in the selected region.

Activate Multicast Select whether you want to enable the multicast feature. Multicast is disabled by default.
    Note
    • This parameter is unavailable by default. If you want to enable multicast, submit an application to your sales manager.
    • Only Enterprise Edition transit routers support multicast. For more information, see Multicast overview.
Name Enter a name for the transit router.
Description Enter a description for the transit router.
Transit Router CIDR Enter a CIDR block for the transit router.

You can specify a CIDR block for the transit router. The CIDR block works in a similar way as the CIDR block of the loopback interface on a router. IP addresses within the CIDR block can be assigned to IPsec-VPN connections. For more information, see Transit router CIDR blocks.

Only Enterprise Edition transit routers support custom CIDR blocks.

View the edition of a transit router

The following procedure shows how to check the edition of a transit router in the CEN console.

  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page, find the CEN instance that you want to manage and click the instance ID.
  3. You can use one of the following methods to view the edition of a transit router:
    • On the Basic Settings > Transit Router tab, find the transit router that you want to manage and view the edition in the Edition column. View the edition of a transit router
    • On the Basic Settings > Transit Router tab, click the ID of the transit router that you want to manage. On the details page of the transit router, click the Basic Settings tab. On the Basic Settings tab, you can view the value of the Version parameter, which indicates the edition of the transit router. Method 2

Delete a transit router

You can delete transit routers that you no longer use. Before you delete a transit router, make sure that the following requirements are met:
  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page, find the CEN instance that you want to manage and click the instance ID.
  3. On the Basic Settings > Transit Router tab, find the transit router that you want to delete and click Delete in the Actions column.
  4. In the Delete Transit Router message, confirm the ID of the transit router that you want to delete and click OK.
