This topic describes the billing methods, billable items, and pricing for AnalyticDB for MySQL.
Billing methods
AnalyticDB for MySQL supports two billing methods: subscription and pay-as-you-go.
Subscription: This billing method lets you use resources for a specified period of time for an upfront payment, and is suitable if you have long-term or predictable workloads. Some types of resources (such as reserved resources in Data Lakehouse Edition and basic resources in Data Warehouse Edition) are more cost-effective when purchased on a subscription basis compared with pay-as-you-go. Longer subscription periods offer more savings.
Pay-as-you-go: This billing method lets you use resources before you pay for them. Bills are generated on an hourly basis, and the hourly fee is calculated based on the specifications of your cluster. Fees are deducted every hour. Pay-as-you-go resources are suitable for short-term, non-persistent workloads. For example, you can create pay-as-you-go clusters to test applications, and release them after the test is complete, reducing the overall costs of testing. Furthermore, if your requirements shift towards long-term workloads, you can switch the billing method to subscription and benefit from a more cost-effective pricing schedule. For more information, see Switch between billing methods.
