Choose a billing method

Billing method	How it works	Best for
Subscription	Pay upfront for a fixed term (monthly or annually) at a lower rate	Stable, predictable workloads
Pay-as-you-go	Pay by the hour based on actual usage	New workloads, variable or unpredictable usage

Subscription rates are lower than pay-as-you-go rates for the same resources. If your workload runs continuously, subscription typically costs less over time.

Billing notes

Before reviewing prices, note the following:

Cluster Edition minimum: 32 cores and 128 GB memory. Each compute node is 16 cores and 64 GB memory.
Elastic I/O resources: Available for Cluster Edition clusters only.
Elastic resources: Billed at pay-as-you-go rates regardless of whether your base cluster uses subscription or pay-as-you-go billing. Subscription clusters pay a lower elastic resource rate than pay-as-you-go clusters.
Storage billing: Hot and cold data storage are billed independently. Storage for subscription clusters is billed at a lower rate than for pay-as-you-go clusters.
Backup storage: Billed separately based on actual backup data size.
