FAW Hongqi, the premium automotive brand under China’s FAW Group, has announced that its “Lingxi Cockpit” intelligent system has successfully integrated the agentic AI features of Qwen —a first in the automotive industry in China. Debuting on the Hongqi HS6 PHEV, the advanced features enable precise recognition of ambiguous voice commands and sophisticated planning of complex, multi-step tasks.

While traditional in-vehicle voice systems have often struggled to understand and execute nuanced user requests, the Qwen-powered Lingxi Cockpit takes a different approach. Serving as a cloud-based decision-making hub, Qwen deeply comprehends natural language commands, accurately breaks down user intents, orchestrates task workflows, and leverages Alibaba’s Amap for location-based tasks.

Cloud-Based Decision, On-Device Execution

By tapping into Amap’s real-time geographic data, spatiotemporal computing engine, and rich POI (Point of Interest) content, Qwen performs real-time information analysis and decision optimization on the cloud, then offers context-aware smart recommendations – which will be visually presented on the vehicle’s display. Through this “cloud-based decision, on-device execution” approach, Qwen is enabling a next-generation intelligent cockpit for car users.

Consider this example: When a user says, “Hello Qwen, take me to Peking University, find a convenient and delicious roast duck restaurant along the way for lunch, and get me to Terminal 3 of the airport before 5 PM,” Qwen instantly identifies the three distinct intents—navigation, dining recommendation, and time-sensitive airport transfer—and generates an itinerary that takes into the real-time weather and road conditions.

This implementation represents a significant milestone for agentic AI in the automotive sector: the technical pathway enables cross-agent collaboration in the cloud and task executions through on-vehicle applications. The result is a transformative leap for intelligent cockpits—evolving from basic chatbot-style Q&A interactions to true “service execution” grounded in accurate, dynamic real-world data.

Supporting low-latency voice recognition and AI model inference demands powerful and secure computing infrastructure. The smart cockpit experience achieves this through Alibaba’s robust computing infrastructure, which is deeply co-optimized with Qwen to deliver high-throughput inference while maintaining optimal energy efficiency.

From Cabin Management to Real-world Task Execution

FAW Hongqi and Alibaba Cloud also plan to further deepen their strategic partnership. Future iterations of the smart cockpit will incorporate Qwen’s multimodal capabilities and progressively integrate services across Alibaba’s ecosystem—including Taobao Quick Commerce, Damai (live entertainment ticketing), and Fliggy (travel services). By converging core capabilities in on-demand retail, ticket booking, and mobility services, the two companies aim to build a more comprehensive intelligent cockpit and continuously elevate the in-vehicle experience for users.

The collaboration is significant: Previously, in-vehicle AI systems were largely confined to basic voice interactions and internal vehicle controls—such as reading news headlines or adjusting the air conditioning. However, the integration of the Qwen AI agent marks a pivotal shift, transforming the in-car experience from simple cabin management to the execution of real-world tasks that extend far beyond the vehicle’s interior.
