On the opening day of the 2026 Beijing Auto Show (April 24), leading Chinese automakers – including BYD, Geely, Li Auto, Changan Automobile, Dongfeng Motor, BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd.), Great Wall Motor, SAIC Volkswagen, SAIC IM Motors – announced the integration of Qwen into their intelligent vehicle systems. In the near future, select models from these manufacturers will offer Qwen-powered AI services directly within the cabin, enabling users to book hotels, purchase attraction tickets, order food delivery, track parcels, and more. This milestone marks a significant leap forward in the application of agentic AI within the automotive industry.

Underpinning these strategic collaborations is Alibaba Cloud’s “edge + cloud” collaborative architecture, designed to fully unlock the potential of next-generation smart cockpits:

On the edge side, the Qwen-Omni multimodal model is deployed to perceive and interpret the physical environment, ensuring robust privacy protection and responsive performance – even under weak or intermittent network conditions.

On the cloud side, Qwen’s agentic AI capabilities deliver comprehensive digital services by understanding natural language commands, precisely decomposing user intents, planning multi-step task workflows, and orchestrating scenario-specific agents for seamless execution. Through integration with the broader Alibaba Group ecosystem, users can complete a wide range of operations directly from their vehicles – including food ordering, shopping, navigation, and secure payments.

The enhanced smart cockpit experience is further enabled by Alibaba Cloud’s robust computing infrastructure, which is deeply co-optimized with Qwen to deliver high-throughput, real-time AI inference while maintaining optimal energy efficiency, which is critical for supporting low-latency voice recognition and complex AI model operations.

These announcements build on momentum earlier this year, when FAW Hongqi—the premium automotive brand under China’s FAW Group – integrated Qwen’s agentic AI capabilities into its “Lingxi Cockpit” intelligent system. Debuting on the Hongqi HS6 PHEV, this implementation enables precise recognition of ambiguous voice commands and sophisticated planning of complex, multi-step tasks. The integration of Qwen represents a pivotal shift: transforming the in-car experience from simple cabin management to the seamless execution of real-world tasks that extend far beyond the vehicle’s interior.

Also at the auto show, Alibaba said that it is adapting the Qwen-Omni multi-modal model to run on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor, enabling human-machine interaction in-cabin AI more natural and seamless.

Built on the Qwen-Omni model and deployed on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX platform for vehicles, the in-cabin AI becomes a proactive AI agent. It can provide intelligent suggestions and services based on a comprehensive understanding of the cabin environment, user habits, and real-time driving conditions.

Building on this collaboration, both parties will continue to deepen collaboration with mutual customers, co-innovating on future models and shaping the next generation of intelligent, agentic mobility experiences.
