:Step 4: Manage authorized assets

Last Updated:Apr 21, 2026

Bastionhost users can manage authorized assets through either client-based or web-based O&M. This topic shows you how to perform web-based O&M as a RAM user.

Background

Bastionhost supports O&M on assets through client tools or a web browser. You can perform web-based O&M using the O&M portal or the Host O&M feature in the Bastionhost console. You can choose the O&M method that best fits your daily workflow. For more information and examples of different O&M methods, see O&M User Guide (V3.2).

Limitations on web-based O&M

Only Bastionhost Enterprise Edition supports web-based O&M. If your Bastionhost instance is the Basic edition, you must upgrade it to the Enterprise Edition or use client-based O&M. For more information, see Upgrade instance specifications or Client-based O&M.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Bastionhost console as a RAM user. In the top navigation bar, select the region of your Bastionhost instance.

  2. In the list of Bastionhost instances, find the target instance and click Manage.

  3. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Asset O&M > Host O&M.

  4. On the Host O&M page, find the target host in the host list, and in the Remote Connection column, click Remote Connection.

  5. In the Remote Connection dialog box, select a host account and click Web Remote Connection.

  6. Perform O&M tasks on the web-based O&M page.

Next steps

When a Bastionhost user performs O&M on an authorized asset, an administrator can view the session details in the Bastionhost console in real time, such as command-line activities, graphical text, and file transfers. If an administrator detects any non-compliant or high-risk operations, they can block the session in real time. For detailed instructions, see Step 5: Audit O&M sessions.

O&M portal

Non-RAM users

Users perform O&M by logging on to the O&M portal, where they can view and manage authorized assets. To access the portal, use the public O&M address of your Bastionhost instance. Access from an internal network is not supported. To learn how to log on to the O&M portal, see Log on to the O&M portal.

Host O&M (Bastionhost console O&M)

RAM user

Bastionhost supports O&M in its web console, eliminating the need for a separate O&M client. You can use the Host O&M feature in the Bastionhost console to directly log on to servers from your web browser and perform O&M.
