Bastionhost:Step 4: Perform O&M operations on assets

Last Updated:Jun 17, 2024

Bastionhost users can access and perform O&M operations on the assets that the users are authorized to manage from clients or web browsers. This topic describes how to perform web-based O&M operations as a RAM user.

Background information

You can log on to a bastion host to perform O&M operations on assets from a client or a web browser. Web-based O&M operations can be performed by using the O&M portal or console of the bastion host. We recommend that you choose a method based on your requirements for daily O&M. For more information about O&M methods and examples, see O&M manual (V3.2).

Limits on web-based O&M

Only Bastionhost Enterprise Edition supports web-based O&M. If your bastion host runs the Basic edition, you can perform only client-based O&M operations on assets. To perform web-based O&M operations, upgrade your bastion host to the Enterprise edition. For more information, see Upgrade a bastion host or Client-based O&M.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Bastionhost console as a RAM user. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your bastion host resides.

  2. In the bastion host list, find the bastion host that you want to manage and click Manage.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Asset O&M > Host O&M.

  4. On the Host O&M page, find the host on which you want to perform O&M operations and click Remote Connection in the Remote Connection column.

  5. In the Remote Connection dialog box, select a host account and click Web Remote Connection.

  6. Perform O&M operations on the page for web-based O&M.

What to do next

When a user logs on to a bastion host to perform O&M operations on assets, you can view the O&M session details in the Bastionhost console in real time as an administrator. The O&M session details are displayed on the Graphic Text, Commands, and File Transfer tabs. You can interrupt the sessions with unauthorized or high-risk operations. For more information, see Step 5: Audit O&M sessions.

O&M portal-based O&M

You can log on to the O&M portal to perform O&M operations. You must log on to the O&M portal by using the public O&M address of your bastion host. Then, you can view the assets on which you have permissions and perform O&M operations on the assets. You cannot use the private O&M address of your bastion host to log on to the O&M portal. For more information about how to log on to the O&M portal, see Log on to the O&M portal.

Host O&M (console-based O&M)

You can perform O&M operations by using the console of your bastion host. You do not need to download an O&M client. You can log on to a server from your browser to perform O&M operations on a web page. To log on to the server, use the host O&M feature in the console of your bastion host.
