How to Claim Free Resources for PolarDB Hackathon

This article explains how to claim free resource benefits for the PolarDB Hackathon 2023.

Once you have successfully registered for PolarDB Global Hackathon 2023, you will receive free resource benefits specifically prepared for the event.

Step 2: Claim PolarDB Storage

The storage fee of PolarDB instances is charged as pay-as-you-go by default. Be sure to claim the storage resource before creating PolarDB clusters so the storage fees can be deducted automatically when the storage doesn't exceed 50GB.

Step 3: Launch PolarDB Instances With Your Own Purpose

Different features may require different types of specifications on PolarDB. Before moving forward, you need to decide which features you will use. Then, follow the corresponding instructions to launch resources.

  1. PolarDB for MySQL | HTAP – ePQ
  2. PolarDB for MySQL | Geo-Redundancy GDN
  3. PolarDB for MySQL | PolarDB for AI
  4. PolarDB for MySQL | HTAP – IMCI
  5. PolarDB for MySQL | Multi-Master
  6. PolarDB for PostgreSQL | Ganos
  7. PolarDB for PostgreSQL | HTAP – ePQ

Option 2 – PolarDB for MySQL | Geo-Redundancy GDN

Follow the steps below to claim the resources for free:

  • Purchase a Primary Cluster
  • Create a GDN
  • Purchase a Secondary Cluster

If you create a secondary cluster by clicking the link above, please choose the correct GDN ID carefully. Otherwise, you may waste your chance to claim free resources. It's highly recommended to create a secondary cluster from the console shown below:

You may need an extra read-only node to explore the advanced feature of HTAP IMCI, which is not covered in the free trial. The good news is that there is still a way for you to use it for free. You can submit a ticket for further support if needed.

As for cross-node and cross-database queries on Multi-Master clusters, you may need to add a global read-only node, which is not covered in the free trial. You can submit tickets and describe your application scenario to get further support so that you can use the global read-only node for free.

Tips

The Multi-Master cluster adopts different architecture compared to the other features of PolarDB for MySQL. Therefore, you are not allowed to use Multi-Master with others (option 1-4 of PolarDB for MySQL) at the same time.

As for PolarDB for AI of PolarDB for MySQL, it's better to use it on the MySQL command line. You may need to install a MySQL client on-premise or on an ECS.
