This topic describes how to manage instances of Data Science Workshop (DSW) 1.0. You can create, modify, start, stop, and delete DSW instances.

Prerequisites

DSW 1.0 is purchased. For more information, see Purchase.

If you want to manage DSW instances as a Resource Access Management (RAM) user, you must first use your Alibaba Cloud account to authorize the RAM user. For more information, see Authorization.

Create an instance

  1. Log on to the Machine Learning Platform for AI console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Model Training > DSW-Notebook Service.
  3. In the upper-left corner of the Notebook Models page, select the region where you want to deploy the instance.
  4. On the Notebook Models page, click Create Instance.
  5. In the Create Instance dialog box, set the following parameters.
    Parameter Description
Billing Method The Subscription and Pay-As-You-Go billing methods are supported.
Instance The instance name can be up to 27 characters in length, and can contain only letters, digits, and underscores (_).
Compute Resource Type CPU and GPU are supported.
Resource Type For more information about supported CPU/GPU specifications, see DSW 1.0.
Storage Settings By default, the system provides 5 GB of storage space. If you need to expand the storage capacity, select the check box and mount a Network Attached Storage (NAS) file system that you have purchased to the DSW instance. Then, enter the ID of the NAS file system in the NAS File System ID field.
NAS File System ID The ID of the NAS file system that supports the Network File System (NFS) protocol. This parameter takes effect only when you select Storage Settings.
  6. Click OK.

Modify an instance

If you need to modify the configurations of an instance, you must first stop the instance.

  1. On the Notebook Models page, find the instance that you want to modify, and click Modify in the Actions column.Modify configurations
  2. In the Modify dialog box, modify the configurations of the instance.
    Parameter Description
Billing Method The billing method cannot be changed.
Instance The instance name cannot exceed 27 characters in length, and can contain only letters, digits, and underscores (_).
Compute Resource Type CPU and GPU are supported.
Resource Type For more information about the supported CPU/GPU specifications, see DSW 1.0.
Storage Settings By default, the system provides 5 GB of storage space. If you need to expand the storage capacity, select the check box and mount a NAS file system that you have purchased to the DSW instance.
NAS File System ID The ID of the NAS file system that supports the Network File System (NFS) protocol. This parameter takes effect only when you select Storage Settings.
  3. Click OK.

Stop an instance

On the Notebook Models page, find the instance that you want to stop, and click Stop in the Actions column.
If the instance is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis, the system stops billing the instance when the status of the instance, displayed in the Status column, changes to Stopped. Make sure that the status of the DSW instances that are not in use is Stopped. Otherwise, these instances continue to incur fees.

Start an instance

You can manually start an instance that is in the Stopped state.

On the Notebook Models page, find the instance that you want to start, and click Start in the Actions column.
If the instance is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis, the system starts to bill the instance after the state of the instance, displayed in the Status column, changes to Running. We recommend that you stop DSW instances after you complete model training. Otherwise, the instances continue to incur fees.

Delete an instance

You can delete instances that are not in use. After an instance is deleted, its data cannot be recovered.

  1. On the Notebook Models page, find the instance that you want to delete, and click Delete in the Actions column.
  2. In the Delete message, click OK.
