Developed based on Data Management, Data Map uses roles to control the permissions for using different features, such as the permissions for creating and previewing data. Data Map helps you build a better enterprise-level knowledge base.

Go to the Data Map module

  1. Log on to the DataWorks console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Workspaces. On the Workspaces page, find the target workspace and click Data Analytics in the Actions column.
  2. On the DataStudio page, click the DataWorks icon in the upper-left corner and choose All Products > DataMap(DataManagement). The homepage of Data Map appears by default.
  3. View or search for data in Data Map. On the homepage, you can enter keywords to search for required tables by name. In addition, the homepage lists the tables that are recently viewed and read and the top tables that are viewed and read based on your access history.
    • If you prefer a powerful search engine, go to the homepage to search for data.
      Note When you enter the Data Map module, the homepage appears by default. To return to the homepage from another page, click the Data Map icon in the upper-left corner.
    • If you want to search for tables by MaxCompute project, click All Data in the top navigation bar.

      On the All Data page, select a project from the Project drop-down list on the left. The MaxCompute and E-MapReduce tables in the project appear respectively on the MaxCompute Table and EMR Table tabs. You can add a table to favorites, apply for permissions on a table, view the lineage of a table, and view the DDL table creation statements of a table.

    • To view the overall information about the current workspace, click Overview in the top navigation bar. For more information, see View the overall information.
    • To modify tables owned by you, click My Tables in the top navigation bar. For more information, see Manage data.
    • If you are a category administrator or workspace administrator and want to modify the workspace configuration or global categories, click Settings in the top navigation bar. For more information, see Manage configurations.

Note on the upgrade from Data Management to Data Map

  • Module: Data Map was released to replace Data Management.
  • Date:
    • Data Map was released in each region during the period of 20:00:00 to 20:20:00 each day from June 25, 2019 to June 28, 2019.
    • Data Management was brought offline in all regions at 20:00:00 on July 1, 2019.

Control the table preview permission Any user can preview tables. Table owners or workspace administrators cannot control the preview permission.
  • Only the owner of a table can preview the table. Other users must apply for the corresponding permission to preview the table.
  • A workspace administrator can turn on or off the corresponding switches to determine whether to allow other users to preview tables in the production or development environment.
    • By default, users can preview tables in the development environment.
    • By default, users cannot preview tables in the production environment.
  • Table owners can manage permissions of their tables in detail.
  • Workspace administrators can easily control the data preview permission of tables in their workspaces.
Control the table creation permission You can directly create a table in Data Management without any permission restriction.
  • No entry is provided for table creation.
  • We recommend that you create or modify tables in the Workspace Tables or Manually Triggered Workflows section of DataStudio. In this way, you can reuse the permission configurations of the development or O&M role in DataStudio.
  • You can add a table to a category on the My Tables page in Data Map.
  • Tables must be created and modified in DataStudio. Permissions are controlled by role.
  • Only table owners can change the table schema. This prevents unauthorized users from creating tables or adding tables to categories.
