Alibaba Cloud Records Fastest Growth among Global Top Cloud Providers

Industry report confirms the company’s growing market share in IaaS and PaaS

Hangzhou, China, July 14, 2021 – Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, continues to lead in the public cloud market, with the fastest growing year-on-year revenue of 52% among the world’s top players in 2020.The trusted cloud company maintained its third position in global Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market share, according to a recent International Data Corporation (IDC) report entitled Worldwide Semiannual Public Cloud Services Tracker.

Alibaba Cloud’s IaaS+PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) combined market share grew from fourth to third in the last quarter of 2020, demonstrating the company’s enhanced global competitiveness, according to the IDC report.

Alibaba Cloud’s performance was partly attributable to the high level of public cloud adoption in its home market. Another IDC report named Semiannual Public Cloud Services Tracker Final_Historical_2020H2 found that China’s public cloud services, combining IaaS, PaaS and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service), grew 49.7% in 2020, becoming the fastest-growing region in the world.

Alibaba Cloud currently has 75 availability zones in 24 regions, serving millions of customers across the globe. In the 2020 fiscal year, it supported 38 percent of the Fortune 500 companies. It has more than 80 security and compliance accreditations worldwide.

Alibaba Cloud is the technology and public cloud platform underpinning Alibaba’s rich and diverse ecosystem, which ranges from e-commerce and payment, to logistics and supply chain management solutions. It supported $74.1 billion in transactions over an 11-day period during Alibaba’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival last year with zero downtime.
