Object Storage Service:ossbrowser 2.0 overview

Last Updated:May 27, 2026

ossbrowser 2.0 is a free desktop client for managing Object Storage Service (OSS) on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Upload, download, delete, and manage objects through an intuitive local GUI. ossbrowser 2.0 runs locally on your device to ensure smooth performance.

Note

ossbrowser 2.0 is an upgraded version of the legacy ossbrowser and is not currently open source. For details about the updates in each version, see Release notes.

Limitations

  • ossbrowser 2.0 is not yet compatible with non-public cloud environments such as Apsara Stack and Alibaba Gov Cloud. Use ossbrowser 1.0 if you are a user in a non-public cloud environment.

  • When you upload or download objects larger than 10 GB over the Internet, the transfer may fail due to network instability. If you are not on an internal network and need to transfer objects larger than 10 GB, use ossutil 2.0 command-line tool.

Features

  • Intuitive interface for bucket management.

  • Batch upload and download objects or directories up to 10 GB, with online preview and editing.

  • Role-based authorization to secure OSS resources.

Supported environments

Important
  • Requires Windows 7 or later, including Windows Server.

  • Linux x64 distributions vary in GUI dependencies. For optimal performance, use Windows or macOS.

Billing

ossbrowser is free. However, OSS operations performed through ossbrowser incur standard OSS fees, same as through the console. For example:

  • Uploading and downloading objects in a local environment: PUT request fees, GET request fees, and outbound data transfer fees apply. Uploaded objects incur storage fees based on their storage class.

  • Uploading and downloading objects over an internal network: PUT and GET request fees and storage fees apply, with no traffic fees. For example, install ossbrowser on an ECS instance to transfer objects over the Alibaba Cloud internal network.

If you transfer data between the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, the Internet or internal network may not provide sufficient speed. Enable Transfer Acceleration to improve throughput, which incurs transfer acceleration fees. Other billable value-added services are listed in Value-added billing items.
