Global Accelerator:Pay-by-data-transfer

Last Updated:Feb 20, 2024

After you purchase a Global Accelerator (GA) instance whose bandwidth metering method is pay-by-data-transfer, you are charged for the data transfer over the global transmission network of Alibaba Cloud. The data transfer fees are managed by Cloud Data Transfer (CDT). This topic describes the pay-by-data-transfer metering rules of GA.

Prerequisites

An Internet Content Provider (ICP) number is obtained for the service domain name if your service requires acceleration between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan). Otherwise, you cannot use GA. For information about how to apply for an ICP number, see ICP filing application overview.

Billable items

The data transfer of a GA instance whose bandwidth metering method is pay-by-data-transfer includes the following types: 流量组成

  • The Internet data transfer between clients and the acceleration area.

  • The data transfer between the acceleration region and the endpoint group over the acceleration network of GA.

Data transfer over the acceleration network of GA can be classified into the following types based on where the service is deployed:

    • Inter-region data transfer: Data is transmitted between regions in the Chinese mainland or between regions outside the Chinese mainland.

    • Cross-border data transfer: Data is transmitted between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan).

    Note
    • The region where the service is deployed is determined by the configurations of the acceleration area and the endpoint group.

    • If the acceleration region is the same as the region where the endpoint group is deployed, you are not charged for data transfer over the acceleration network of GA.

  • The Internet or internal data transfer between the endpoint group and the origin server.

Data is transmitted over the Internet or internal networks based on the method used to connect to the origin server. You are not charged for internal data transfer. For more information about the supported origin server connections, see What is GA?

The following table describes the billable items for data transfer in different scenarios.

Billing rules

The following table describes the billing rules for different types of data transfer.

Data transfer type

Billing rule

Pricing

Billing method

Internet data transfer

The Internet data transfer per month in each region is billed based on tiered pricing. The billing cycle for tiered pricing is one calendar month. The amount of Internet data transfer of your service is reset to 0 at the beginning of each month.

For more information about the pricing of Internet data transfer, see Internet data transfer.

Pay-as-you-go

You are charged based on the actual amount of data transfer. Fees are deducted after data is transmitted. The bills are generated by CDT.

Inter-region data transfer

You are charged for the data transfer in each region.

For more information about the pricing of inter-region data transfer, see Inter-region data transfers.

Cross-border data transfer

You are charged for the data transfer in each region.

If you use BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines, the unit price is USD 0.96 per GB.

Note
  • For more information about CDT billing rules and discounts, see Internet data transfer.

  • The unit price is for reference only. You can view the actual unit prices in your bills. For information about how to query CDT bills, see Query bills.

Examples

Note
  • Example 1: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an application deployed outside Alibaba Cloud in the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the China (Shanghai) region, the endpoint group is deployed in the China (Beijing) region, and the endpoint is deployed outside Alibaba Cloud. After a GA instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region, the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region, and the inter-region data transfer fee.

    内地-内地 跨地域

Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland = USD 0.118/GB
Unit price of inter-region data transfer between regions in the Chinese mainland = USD 0.09/GB
The data transfer fees are calculated by using the following formulas:
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region = Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.118/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 118
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region = Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.118/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 118
Inter-region data transfer fee = Unit price of inter-region data transfer between regions in the Chinese mainland × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.09/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 90
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region + Internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region + Inter-region data transfer fee = USD 118 + USD 118 + USD 90 = USD 326
  • Example 2: Clients outside the Chinese mainland access an application deployed on Alibaba Cloud outside the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the Singapore region, the endpoint group is deployed in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the endpoint is deployed on Alibaba Cloud. After a GA instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the Singapore region and the inter-region data transfer fee.

    海外-海外 跨地域

Unit price of inter-region data transfer from Asia Pacific to North America = USD 0.110/GB
Unit price of inter-region data transfer from Asia Pacific to North America = USD 0.08/GB
The data transfer fees are calculated by using the following formulas:
Internet data transfer fee in the Singapore region = Unit price of Internet data transfer in Asia Pacific × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.110/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 110
Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region = USD 0
Inter-region data transfer fee = Unit price of inter-region data transfer from Asia Pacific to North America × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.08/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 80
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the Singapore region + Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region + Inter-region data transfer fee = USD 110 + USD 0 + USD 80 = USD 190
  • Example 3: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an application deployed on Alibaba Cloud outside the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the China (Shanghai) region, the endpoint group is deployed in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the endpoint is deployed on Alibaba Cloud. After a GA instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region and the cross-border data transfer fee for BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines.

    内地-海外 私网精品跨境

Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland = USD 0.118/GB
Unit price of cross-border data transfer from the Chinese mainland to regions outside the Chinese mainland over BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines = USD 0.96/GB
The data transfer fees are calculated by using the following formulas:
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region = Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.118/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 118
Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region = USD 0
Cross-border data transfer fee over BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines = Unit price of cross-border data transfer from the Chinese mainland to regions outside the Chinese mainland over BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.96/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 9,600
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region + Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region + Cross-border data transfer fee over BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines = USD 118 + USD 0 + USD 9,600 = USD 9,718

Bill splitting process

If your service does not require cross-border acceleration from regions in the Chinese mainland to regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan), or you want to use BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines for cross-border acceleration, perform the following steps:

使用流程

  1. Purchase a GA instance whose bandwidth metering method is pay-by-data-transfer.

When you purchase a pay-as-you-go standard GA instance, you can configure the acceleration area, listener, and endpoint group at the same time. If you have completed all the configurations, you can ignore all the following steps.

For more information, see Create and manage standard GA instances or Create and manage basic GA instances.

  2. Optional. Enable cross-border acceleration.

If cross-border data transfer is required, you must enable cross-border acceleration for your GA instance.

    Note
    • This topic describes how to use BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines for cross-border acceleration.

    • Only standard GA instances support BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines.

    • If you want to use basic GA instances for cross-border acceleration, complete enterprise real-name verification. After you complete enterprise real-name verification, you can enable cross-border acceleration. For more information, see Billing rules for cross-border data transfer.

    1. On the Instances page, find the standard Global Accelerator instance that you want to manage and click its ID.

    2. On the instance details page, click the Instance Information tab. In the Transmission Network Type section, click Enable Cross-Border Acceleration.

    3. In the Enable Cross-border Acceleration dialog box, read the Compliance Commitments Regarding Cross-border Data Transfers, select Agree to the Preceding Compliance Agreement, and then click Enable.

    4. In the message that appears, click OK.

  3. Add an acceleration area.

For information about Internet service provider (ISP) line types, see Network types.

  4. Add a listener.

You need to add a listener only for a standard GA instance. You do not need to add a listener for a basic GA instance. For information about the procedure for adding a listener for a standard GA instance, see Add and manage intelligent routing listeners or Add and manage custom routing listeners.

  5. Add an endpoint group and an endpoint.

  6. Optional. On the instance details page, click the Instance Information tab. In the Transmission Network Type section, you can view the type of the transmission network that connects the acceleration region to the region where the endpoint group is deployed.

After the cross-boarder acceleration is enabled, the Transmission Network Type of a standard GA instance is BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro. You can accelerate content delivery between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan). No additional configuration is required.

Network types

ISP line types

You can specify the ISP line type that is used by clients to connect to acceleration regions.

  • BGP (Multi-ISP): provides premium BGP lines across the world. This is the default line type. BGP lines from different ISPs can be used. The optimal BGP line is automatically selected to ensure network stability.

All acceleration regions support BGP (Multi-ISP).

  • BGP Pro: BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines optimize data transmission to the Chinese mainland and improve connection quality for international services. Cross-border connections are established by using Chinese mainland ISP services when BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines provide services to users in the Chinese mainland (except data centers). This reduces network latency.

BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro is available only in the China (Hong Kong) and Japan (Tokyo) regions.

Transmission network types

You can specify the type of the transmission network that is used to connect the acceleration region and the region where the endpoint group is deployed.

You can use BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines for network acceleration in a cost-effective manner between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan).
