Global Accelerator:Billing rules for cross-border data transfer

Last Updated:Feb 20, 2024

After you purchase a Global Accelerator (GA) instance that uses the pay-by-data-transfer bandwidth metering method, you are charged for data transfer over the global transmission network of Global Accelerator. Data transfer fees are managed by Cloud Data Transfer (CDT). This topic describes the billing rules for cross-border data transfer over cross-border Express Connect circuits.

Prerequisites

  • If you want to use Express Connect circuits to accelerate data transfer between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan), make sure that your enterprise account has completed real-name registration. For more information, see FAQ about real-name registration.

  • Make sure that the domain name of the accelerated application has an Internet Content Provider (ICP) number. Otherwise, cross-border acceleration does not take effect. For more information about how to apply for an ICP number, see ICP filing application overview.

Billable items

The following table describes the billable items for different scenarios.

Note
  • The connected areas are determined based on the configurations of the acceleration area and the area where the endpoint group is deployed.

  • This topic describes the billing rules for cross-border data transfer over cross-border Express Connect circuits. For more information about the billing rules for other types of data transfer, see Pay-by-data-transfer.

Billing examples

Note
  • Scenario 1: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an application deployed outside Alibaba Cloud in a region outside the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the China (Shanghai) region, the endpoint group is deployed in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the endpoint is deployed outside Alibaba Cloud. After a Global Accelerator instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region, the Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the cross-border data transfer fee for using cross-border Express Connect circuits.

    内地-海外 公网 联通跨境

Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland = USD 0.118/GB
Unit price of Internet data transfer in North America = USD 0.074/GB
Unit price of cross-border data transfer from the Chinese mainland to North America over cross-border Express Connect circuits = USD 0.8/GB
The data transfer fees are calculated by using the following formulas:
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region = Unit price of Internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.118/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 118
Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region = Unit price of Internet data transfer in North America × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.074/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 74
Cross-border data transfer fee (cross-border Express Connect circuits) = Unit price of cross-border data transfer from the Chinese mainland to North America over cross-border Express Connect circuits × Amount of data transfer = USD 0.8/GB × 1,000 GB = USD 800
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region + Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region + Cross-border data transfer fee (cross-border Express Connect circuits) = USD 118 + USD 74 + USD 800 = USD 992
  • Scenario 2: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an application deployed on Alibaba Cloud in a region outside the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the China (Shanghai) region, the endpoint group is deployed in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the endpoint is deployed on Alibaba Cloud. After a Global Accelerator instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region and the cross-border data transfer fee over cross-border Express Connect circuits.
