You can pay storage fees on a pay-as-you-go basis or purchase storage plans. By default, Database Backup built-in storage pools and ApsaraDB storage pools are charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. If you want to reduce storage fees, you can use storage plans.

This topic describes billing methods and pricing of storage pools.

Pay-as-you-go

DBS provides three types of storage pools: DBS built-in storage pools, self-managed OSS storage pools, and NAS file system storage pool. However, storage fees are charged only for DBS built-in storage pools. You do not need to specify the storage capacity when you purchase a backup schedule. The storage capacity is automatically increased when the amount of data increases. You are charged based on the storage space that you use and the duration.

Hourly storage fees = Storage volume (GB) × Monthly unit price/30 days/24 hours.

The bill of the previous day is generated and fees are offset at 00:00 every day.

Subscription storage plans

If you want to store large volumes of data, we recommend that you purchase storage plans to reduce storage costs. A storage plan is more cost-effective than the pay-as-you-go billing method.
Note A storage plan cannot offset the storage fees for cross-region backup.
DBS provides the following storage plan types. You can purchase storage plans of the following durations: one month, six months, and one year. If storage plans are exhausted, fees incurred by extra storage are charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. For more information, see Use storage plans.
  • Backup storage plans

These storage plans can be used to offset the fees incurred for your account when you back up and store ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL, ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL, ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server, or ApsaraDB for MongoDB database data.

  • Sandbox storage plans

These storage plans can be used to offset the fees incurred for your account when you use sandbox storage. For more information about the billing of sandbox storage, see DBS sandbox fees.

  • Backup instance storage plans

You are charged for creating a pay-as-you-go backup instance and for storing backup data in built-in DBS storage. These storage plans can be used to offset the fees incurred for your account when you use built-in DBS storage.

The pricing of backup instance storage plans and ApsaraDB backup storage plans and the offset factors of backup plans in different regions are described in this topic. For more information about the pricing and offset factors of sandbox storage plans, see DBS sandbox fees.

Storage plans are applicable to all regions around the world. When you use storage plans to offset the storage volume for a backup schedule in different regions, different offset factors are used.

Offset volume = Backup storage volume × Offset factor

Offset factors of storage plans for backup instances

For example, you purchase a storage plan to offset the storage volume for a backup schedule in the China (Hong Kong) region. If 50 GB of data is stored, 56.5 GB is offset from the storage plan: 50 GB × 1.13 = 56.5 GB.

China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Qingdao), China (Beijing), China (Zhangjiakou), China (Hohhot), China (Chengdu), and China (Shenzhen) 1
US (Virginia) 1.05
Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and India (Mumbai) 1.08
China (Hong Kong), Singapore (Singapore), US (Silicon Valley), Indonesia (Jakarta), Germany (Frankfurt), and UK (London) 1.13
