Send messages to regions outside the Chinese mainland

Use the SMS Campaign feature in the Short Message Service (SMS) console to send batch messages for system notifications or promotional events.

Before you begin

Complete the following preparations:

  1. Create an account and complete enterprise identity verification: SMS requires an enterprise account. Complete enterprise identity verification.

  2. Activate SMS: Log on to the SMS console and activate the service.

  3. Purchase a resource package: SMS uses prepaid resource packages by default. Purchase a resource package before you use the service.

    • A credit card or PayPal account is added to your Alibaba Cloud account.

    • Purchase a suitable package based on the destinations and package specifications. If you prefer the pay-as-you-go model, contact sales to enable it.

  4. Carrier compliance requirements vary by country or region. Check whether your destination requires sender ID registration.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the SMS console. In the left navigation pane, choose Go Globe > SMS Campaign.

  2. On the Mass Messaging page, click Create Campaign.

  3. Configure the campaign parameters:

    Message Type

    Select a message type:

    • Notification

    • Promotional Message

    Campaign Name

    Campaign name, up to 30 characters.

    Sender ID

    Supports letters and digits. Alphanumeric IDs: up to 11 characters. Numeric-only IDs: up to 15 digits. Use your application, website, or company name for brand recognition. For more information, see Register a sender ID.

    Content

    Supports variables in the format ${name}. Example: Your verification code is ${code}. This code is valid for 5 minutes. Do not share it with others.

    Mobile Phone Numbers

    Add recipient numbers by importing a file or entering them manually.

    • Import Data

      1. Download a template and fill in the recipient numbers.

      2. Click Import Mobile Phone Numbers.

    • Manual Input (Variables Unsupported)

      Enter the recipient numbers.

    Note
    • To use variables in your message, add recipients by importing a file.

    • Manual input supports up to 100 numbers. For larger batches, import a file.

    Schedule Campaign

    Enable Schedule Campaign to set the time zone, date, and time for message delivery.

    Note

    To cancel a scheduled campaign, return to the Mass Messaging page and click Cancel in the Actions column at least 5 minutes before the scheduled time.

  4. If scheduled sending is configured, click Schedule Campaign. Otherwise, click Submit Campaign.

Check campaign results

  1. Log on to the SMS console. In the left navigation pane, choose Go Globe > SMS Campaign.

  2. Find your campaign and click View Details in the Actions column.

  3. View sending details, including reception time and result.

Check delivery reports

  1. In the SMS console, choose Analytics > Delivery Report.

  2. Filter records by various conditions. Click Advanced Search to view all filters:

    • Basic search: Filter by send date, time zone, mobile phone numbers, sender ID, and destination country/region.

    • Advanced search: Filter by Message Content, Carrier MCC & MNC, Delivery Status, Status Code, and Billed Messages.

    • Default time zone: UTC+8.

    • Available data range: Past 180 days.

  3. You can export the delivery report. For more information, see Query delivery reports.
