Resource Management:Manage and monitor resources across business lines

Scenarios

When monitoring cloud resources such as ECS instances, databases, load balancers, and storage, you typically need to organize them by business line. Group resources into Resource Groups and create corresponding application groups in CloudMonitor to manage alert rules and view monitoring data per business line, improving O&M efficiency.

For example, assume that an enterprise has three business lines. Each business line uses multiple types of resources and requires a different set of alert rules. The enterprise has only one Alibaba Cloud account (a primary account) with over 100 ECS instances and 10 SLB instances. The enterprise wants to monitor resources by business line.

Procedure

1. Create Resource Groups and then transfer your resources to them.

   1. Sign in to the Resource Group console.

   2. Create Resource Groups.

      In this example, create three Resource Groups named Business Line A, Business Line B, and Business Line C.

   3. Transfer resources to their corresponding Resource Groups.

      In this example, transfer the ECS instances and SLB instances that belong to different business lines to their corresponding Resource Groups.

2. Create CloudMonitor application groups based on Resource Groups.

   1. Sign in to the CloudMonitor console.

   2. Create an application group.

      In this example, set the creation method to Create from Resource Group and then set Application Group Name to the corresponding Resource Group. You can create a separate application group for each of the three Resource Groups.

   3. View the application group.

      After you create an application group, you can view its resources, monitoring charts, failure lists, and availability monitoring data. Application groups provide timely alerts for resource failures so you can respond quickly.
