A storage plan is a subscription-based resource plan for PolarDB. You can use storage plans to offset storage fees and fees for level-1 backups that exceed the free quota. Storage plans can help you save on storage resources and level-1 backups. The larger the volume of the storage plan (capacity and duration), the more costs you save. For example, a monthly storage plan provides 10% to 45% savings when compared with a comparable pay-as-you-go cluster. The longer the duration of the plan, the more savings you get. If you purchase annual storage plans, you can save an additional 15% off the monthly price. This topic describes the billing rules of storage plans and how to purchase a storage plan.
Offset objects and offset order of storage plans
- Pay-as-you-go storage space
Storage plans can be used to offset pay-as-you-go storage space. If the capacity of the storage plan is insufficient to offset the level-1 backup storage space, you are charged for additional storage space on a pay-as-you-go basis. Note Storage plans can be used only on clusters that use the pay-as-you-go billing method for storage, and cannot be used on clusters that use the subscription billing method for storage. - Level-1 backups that exceed the free quota
A storage plan can be used to offset the storage space exceeding the free quota for level-1 backups. If the capacity of the storage plan is insufficient to offset the level-1 backup storage space, you are charged for additional storage space on a pay-as-you-go basis. Offset order: Storage plans are used to offset storage space based on the billing order of PolarDB clusters. If the bills of level-1 backups are generated first, storage plans are used to offset the storage costs of level-1 backups first. The remaining capacity (if any) is used to offset the storage space. If the bills of the storage space are generated first, storage plans are used to offset the storage space first. The remaining capacity (if any) is used to offset the storage costs of level-1 backups.

Precautions
- Storage plans can be used by all PolarDB clusters in the regions that are specified by the Plan Type parameter. You can select Chinese Mainland or Outside Chinese Mainland.
- If the capacity of your storage plan is insufficient, you can purchase an additional storage plan or upgrade the storage plan. However, storage plans cannot be downgraded.
- If the amount of used storage exceeds the capacity of your storage plan, you are charged for the additional storage resources based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.
For example, assume that you have created three PolarDB clusters that each requires 400 GB of storage. If you purchase a storage plan of 1,000 GB and these clusters share the storage plan, the storage resources used in excess of 200 GB are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. Procedure
- Log on to the PolarDB console.
- In the upper-left corner of the page, click Create Cluster.
- Set Product Type to Storage Plan and specify the following parameters.
Parameter Description Plan Type - Chinese Mainland: The storage plan can be used by all PolarDB clusters that are deployed in regions of mainland China, such as China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), and China (Beijing).
- Outside Chinese Mainland: The storage plan can be used by all PolarDB clusters that are deployed in China (Hong Kong) and regions outside China, such as UK (London) and Singapore (Singapore).
Size The storage capacity of the storage plan. Purchase Plan The validity period of the storage plan. Note If you purchase a storage plan for one year or more, you can save an additional 15% off the monthly price. - Click Buy Now.
- Read and accept the agreement of service, and then click Pay to complete the payment.
