Storage prices vary based on the billing method and storage type. You can select a billing method from the guide on the right to view the corresponding billing rules. PolarDB provides storage plans to help you reduce storage costs.
Subscription prices
The following tables provide the prices for different storage types.
The available storage classes vary by Edition. For more information about the storage classes available for a specific edition, see the buy page.
ESSD AutoPL disks provide three types of performance: baseline performance, provisioned performance, and performance burst. The baseline performance of an ESSD AutoPL disk is the same as that of a PL1 ESSD with the same specifications. For more information, see ESSD AutoPL disks. You can configure the IOPS performance of ESSD AutoPL disks when you purchase a cluster.
If your data volume exceeds the purchased storage capacity, the behavior varies by storage type:
ESSDs do not support auto-scaling. You must use Database Autonomy Service (DAS) to scale up the storage capacity. To prevent business interruptions due to insufficient storage, you can manually configure automatic storage scaling. For more information, see Configure automatic storage scaling for ESSDs. After you enable automatic storage scaling, the storage capacity is automatically scaled up when the trigger conditions are met. You are charged for the scaled-up capacity in advance. If your Alibaba Cloud account does not have a sufficient balance to support the scale-up operation, the operation fails.
PSL4 and PSL5: The storage space automatically scales out based on your actual usage. No additional operations are required. Data that exceeds the purchased storage capacity is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. If you have a storage plan, the excess data volume is first offset by the storage plan. Any remaining data volume is then billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. For example, you purchase 100 GB of subscription storage and a 50 GB storage plan. Your data volume is 200 GB. Of the 100 GB of excess data, 50 GB is offset by the storage plan, and the remaining 50 GB is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Pay-as-you-go prices
The following tables show the pricing for different storage types.
The available storage types vary by the cluster Edition. For more information about the storage types available for a cluster of a specific edition, go to the buy page.
The performance of an ESSD AutoPL disk is the sum of its baseline performance, provisioned performance, and performance burst. The baseline performance is the same as that of a PL1 ESSD. The provisioned performance and performance burst are the key features of the disk. For more information, see ESSD AutoPL disks. When you purchase the disk, you can configure its provisioned performance to increase its IOPS performance.
If you select the ESSD storage type for a cluster, you must specify the storage capacity. You are charged per GB-hour based on the specified storage capacity. ESSDs do not support auto-scaling. You must use DAS to scale up the storage capacity. To prevent business interruptions due to insufficient storage, you can manually configure automatic storage scaling. For more information, see Configure auto-expansion for ESSD storage space. After you enable automatic storage scaling, the storage capacity is automatically scaled up when the trigger conditions are met. You are charged for the scaled-up capacity in advance. If your Alibaba Cloud account does not have a sufficient balance to support the scale-up operation, the operation fails.

For PSL4 and PSL5, you do not need to select a storage capacity. The storage space automatically scales out as your data grows. You are billed only for the storage space that your data actually uses.

Storage plans
You can use storage plans to offset the storage usage of pay-as-you-go and Serverless resources.
Storage plans can also be used to offset the storage usage of level-1 backups, data backups, level-2 backups, and log backups and cold data archiving.
You cannot use storage plans to offset storage usage that is billed by subscription.
Offset rules
A storage plan provides a fixed hourly quota to offset the storage usage of pay-as-you-go and Serverless clusters. For example, if you purchase a storage plan of 100 GB, you are entitled to a fixed quota of 100 GB per hour to offset the corresponding storage usage.

Example 1: The storage plan can offset the storage usage of your clusters.
Your Alibaba Cloud account has a storage plan of 50 GB and the following PolarDB clusters:
Cluster name | Edition | Hot standby storage cluster enabled | Billing method (compute nodes) | Storage type | Storage billing method | Cluster storage usage |
A | RDS Cluster Edition | Yes | Subscription | PSL5 | Subscription | 2.76 GB (subscribed amount: 50.00 GB) |
B | RDS Cluster Edition | No | Subscription | PSL5 | Pay-as-you-go | 2.77 GB |
C | RDS Cluster Edition | No | Pay-as-you-go | PSL5 | Pay-as-you-go | 2.81 GB |
D | Cluster Edition (Serverless) | Yes | Serverless | PSL5 | Pay-as-you-go | 45.07 GB |
E | Standard Edition | No | Subscription | PL1 ESSD | Subscription | 2.38 GB (subscribed amount: 100.00 GB) |
50-GB storage plan automatically offsets the storage usage of the clusters:
Cluster A and Cluster E use the subscription.storage billing method. The storage plan does not offset the storage usage of the two clusters.
Cluster B has a cluster storage usage of 2.77 GB. An offset ratio of 0.5 is applied to the storage usage. As a result, 1.385 GB (calculated as 2.77 GB × 0.5) of the storage plan is used to offset the storage usage of the cluster. Then, the storage plan has a remaining capacity of 48.615 GB (calculated as 50 GB - 1.385 GB).
Cluster C has a cluster storage usage of 2.81 GB. An offset ratio of 0.5 is applied to the storage usage. As a result, 1.405 GB (calculated as 2.81 GB × 0.5) of the storage plan is used to offset the storage usage of the cluster. Then, the storage plan has a remaining capacity of 47.21 GB (calculated as 48.615 GB - 1.405 GB).
Cluster D has a cluster storage usage of 45.07 GB. An offset ratio of 1 is applied to the storage usage. As a result, 45.07 GB (calculated as 45.07 GB × 1) of the storage plan is used to offset the storage usage of the cluster. Then, the storage plan has a remaining capacity of 2.14 GB (calculated as 47.21 GB - 45.07 GB).
To sum up, a total of 47.86 GB (calculated as 1.385 GB + 1.405 GB + 45.07 GB) of the storage plan is used to offset the storage usage of the clusters. The storage plan has a remaining capacity of 2.14 GB (calculated as 50 GB - 47.86 GB).
This example describes only how a storage plan offsets the cluster storage usage of the PolarDB clusters. Other types of storage usage, such as the storage usage of level-1 backups/data backups, level-2 backups, log backups, and cold data archiving, are not included in this example.
Example 2: The capacity of a storage plan is insufficient to offset the storage usage of your clusters.
F | RDS Cluster Edition | Yes | Pay-as-you-go | PSL5 | Pay-as-you-go | 3.92 GB |
Cluster F has a cluster storage usage of 3.92 GB. An offset ratio of 1 is applied to the storage usage. However, the storage plan has a remaining capacity of 2.14 GB. Therefore, only 2.14 GB of the storage plan can be used to offset the storage usage of the cluster. After 2.14 GB of the storage plan is used to offset the storage usage of the cluster, the storage plan has a remaining capacity of 0 GB (calculated as 2.14 GB -2.14 GB). The remaining 1.78 GB (calculated as 3.92 GB - 2.14 GB) storage usage of the cluster is billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.
To sum up, a total of 50 GB (calculated as 1.385 GB + 1.405 GB + 45.07 GB + 2.14 GB) of the storage plan is used to offset the storage usage of the clusters. The remaining capacity of the storage plan is 0 GB (calculated as 50 GB - 50 GB).
This example describes only how a storage plan offsets the cluster storage usage of the PolarDB clusters. Other types of storage usage, such as the storage usage of level-1 backups/data backups, level-2 backups, log backups, and cold data archiving, are not included in this example.
