When your Alibaba Cloud account has overdue payments, all pay-as-you-go and serverless PolarDB clusters under the account become overdue. Subscription PolarDB clusters with automatic renewal enabled are not affected until the next subscription period starts.
Alibaba Cloud sends notifications to your account before your cluster becomes overdue. To avoid business interruptions, add funds to your account as soon as possible.
What happens to pay-as-you-go and serverless clusters
After your account has overdue payments, your pay-as-you-go and serverless clusters go through three stages over 30 days:
Days 1–15: Cluster runs normally. The cluster continues to run as expected. Add funds to your account to prevent the cluster from being locked when this period ends.
Days 16–30: Cluster is locked and unavailable. The cluster is locked and cannot be accessed. Before adding funds, check your payment methods. Add funds to unlock the cluster and restore normal operation.
Day 31: Cluster is released. The cluster is permanently released. Depending on your backup retention policy, data may be recoverable from the recycle bin. See Data recovery options after release.
The cluster stays available for 15 days, then locked for another 15 days. Act before day 31 to avoid permanent data loss.
Data recovery options after release
Whether you can recover data after a cluster is released depends on the engine type and your backup retention policy.
If your backup retention policy is set to Retain Last Automatic Backup (Automatic Backup before Release) (Default) or Retain All Backups, the cluster data is retained and moved to the recycle bin when the cluster is released.
| Engine | Recoverable after release? | How to recover |
|---|---|---|
| PolarDB for MySQL | Yes | Restore using a backup set in the recycle bin. See Recycle bin of the PolarDB for MySQL cluster. |
| PolarDB for PostgreSQL | Yes | Restore using a backup set in the recycle bin. See Recycle bin of the PolarDB for PostgreSQL cluster. |
| PolarDB for PostgreSQL (Compatible with Oracle) | Yes | Restore using a backup set in the recycle bin. See Recycle bin of the PolarDB for PostgreSQL cluster (Compatible with Oracle). |
| PolarDB-X | No | PolarDB-X instances cannot be restored after release. |
