Domain Names:Transfer to a different Alibaba Cloud account

Last Updated:Dec 25, 2025

You can transfer a domain name from one Alibaba Cloud account (the source account) to another (the destination account) to centralize management or reassign administrative permissions. This operation only changes the account that manages the domain name; it does not affect the domain name's registrant, expiration date, DNS resolution, ICP filing, or SSL certificate. To change the registrant information of the domain name, see Modify registrant information.

Common use cases for cross-account transfers include:

  • Centralizing management: Transferring a domain name from an employee's personal account to a central company account.

  • Transferring permissions: Moving a domain name to a new account when an employee leaves the company.

  • Aligning with business structure: Reassigning a domain name's management account to match organizational restructuring.

  • Simplifying renewals: Consolidating domain names into a single account to streamline the renewal process.

Procedure

Step 1: Perform pre-transfer checks

Before you begin, ensure that the following requirements are met.

Check item

Requirements and instructions

Domain name validity

The domain name must not be expired. If it has expired, you must renew it before initiating a transfer.

Identity verification

For.cn domain names, the registrant must have already completed identity verification.

Registration date

The domain name must meet a minimum registration period. The console will indicate the specific requirement for your domain name.

Account type

  • The transfer must be initiated from the source Alibaba Cloud account. Resource Access Management (RAM) users cannot perform this operation.

  • Direct transfers between an Alibaba Cloud China site account and an international site account are not supported. To move a domain between these sites, you must perform a standard registrar transfer. This involves transferring the domain name away from Alibaba Cloud from the source account and then transferring it back in to the destination account. This process incurs a fee and extends the domain name's registration by one year.

Step 2: Initiate the transfer

The source account (the account that currently manages the domain name) must perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the transfer page.

Log on to the Domain Names console. On the Domain Names page, find the target domain name and click Manage in the Actions column. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Transfer Between Accounts.

For batch transfers: The process for .cn domain names and other TLDs is different. You must process them in separate batches.

    • .cn domain names: In the left-side navigation pane, click Batch Operations > CNNIC Batch Operations > Account Transfer.

    • Other TLDs: In the left-side navigation pane, click Batch Operations > Common Batch Operations > Account Transfer.

  2. Enter information and submit.

    Important

This operation is irreversible. Once you submit the transfer, the destination account gains full management permissions for the domain name. Double-check that the destination account ID is correct before you proceed.

    • Batch Mode:

      • Enter Domain Name: One domain name per line, up to 1,000.

      • Upload File: Supports .xls and .xlsx formats, up to 2 MB.

    • Transfer To: Enter the UID of the destination account. Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner to view your UID.

After completing the email verification, click Submit. The transfer takes effect immediately. Ensure that the UID you entered is correct.

Step 3: Check the transfer result

The transfer takes effect immediately and does not require confirmation from the destination account.

  • Source account (original account): The domain name is no longer listed in the source account. The transfer record is available in Change Log.

  • Destination account: The domain name is now listed in the destination account's Domain Names list.

FAQ

  1. What should I do if I can't see the domain name after the transfer?

    • Confirm that you are logged on to the correct destination account. The domain name will no longer be visible in the source account.

    • Verify that you performed a cross-account transfer, not an ownership change. An ownership change modifies the registrant information but does not move the domain name to a different account.

  2. How long does a domain name transfer between Alibaba Cloud accounts take? Is there a fee? Does it affect the domain name's expiration date?

    • Time: The transfer is in real-time. The domain name appears in the destination account immediately after the source account confirms the transfer.

    • Fee: There is no fee for transferring a domain name between Alibaba Cloud accounts.

    • Expiration date: Unaffected. Your domain name's expiration date remains the same.

  3. Will transferring to another account affect my DNS resolution, ICP filing, or SSL certificate?

    • DNS resolution: DNS resolution is not affected by the transfer.

If you use the Free Edition of Alibaba Cloud DNS, DNS records are migrated with the domain name. However, if you use the Paid Edition, DNS records remain in the source account. For more information, see Transfer a domain name between Alibaba Cloud accounts.

    • SSL certificate: Not affected. The SSL certificate is associated with the domain name, so the transfer does not affect the certificate's validity. You can use the SSL certificate upload, synchronization, and sharing feature to share certificates between Alibaba Cloud accounts that have the same identity verification information.

  4. Does a cross-account transfer change the domain name's ownership?

A cross-account transfer only changes which account manages the domain name. The registrant information (ownership) remains unchanged. To change the registrant, you must perform a separate registrant information change.

  5. Can the transfer be revoked? What if I transfer the domain name to the wrong account?

No, the transfer is irreversible. Once submitted, management rights are transferred immediately. If you transfer a domain name to the wrong account, you must contact the owner of that account to arrange for it to be transferred back. Alibaba Cloud cannot intervene in such disputes.
