Data Transmission Service:Managing serverless instances

Last Updated:Mar 30, 2026

Use the Data Management (DMS) console to pause an instance, monitor DU usage, and adjust the auto-scaling range of your Data Transmission Service (DTS) serverless instances.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

Limitations

  • The billing method of a serverless instance cannot be changed.

  • The instance class of a serverless instance cannot be upgraded or downgraded. Adjust the upper and lower DU limits to control the auto-scaling range instead.

How DU auto-scaling works

A DTS unit (DU) is the resource unit for serverless instances. DTS automatically scales DU allocation between the lower and upper limits based on workload demand.

Parameter Description
Lower Limit The minimum DU count. Auto-scaling will not scale below this value.
Upper Limit The maximum DU count. Auto-scaling will not scale above this value.

The DU usage displayed on the Auto Scaling Metrics for Serverless Instance tab updates only when:

  • The DU count reaches the upper limit, or

  • The resource specifications meet performance requirements after you adjust the upper or lower limit.

DU usage data is retained for 30 days.

View DU usage

  1. Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, click Data + AI.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose DTS (DTS) > Data Synchronization.

Operations may vary based on the mode and layout of the DMS console. For more information, see Simple mode and Customize the layout and style of the DMS console. Alternatively, go directly to the Data Synchronization Tasks page of the new DTS console.
  4. On the right side of Data Synchronization Tasks, select the region where the instance resides.Data Synchronization Tasks page of the new DTS console

In the new DTS console, select the region in the top navigation bar.
  5. Click the ID of the serverless instance.

Serverless instances have Serverless listed under the Billing Method column.
  6. In the left-side navigation pane, click Performance Monitoring.

  7. Click the Auto Scaling Metrics for Serverless Instance tab.

  8. Select Query Task and configure Select Time Range to view the DU Usage chart.

Modify DU limits

Adjust the upper and lower DU limits to change the auto-scaling range of a serverless instance.

Parameter Valid values Description
Lower Limit 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 Minimum DU count. Auto-scaling will not scale below this value.
Upper Limit 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 Maximum DU count. Auto-scaling will not scale above this value.
  1. Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.

Serverless instances have Serverless listed under the Billing Method column.
  6. On the Task Management tab, click Modify Auto Scaling Configurations for Serverless Instance.

  7. In the dialog box, set the Lower Limit and Upper Limit values.

  8. Click OK.

More operations

Other management operations on serverless instances — such as pausing an instance — follow the same procedure as regular pay-as-you-go data synchronization instances. For more information, see Instance Management (New Console).
