Data Management:Disable the sensitive data protection feature

Last Updated:May 26, 2025

If you no longer need to use the sensitive data protection feature to protect sensitive data in a database instance, you can disable the feature for the database instance. This topic describes how to disable the sensitive data protection feature.

Prerequisites

Your system role is a Data Management (DMS) administrator, a database administrator (DBA), or a security administrator.

Usage notes

  • After the feature is disabled for a database instance, sensitive data on the database instance is not protected. The data classification information, data sensitivity levels, and masking rule configurations on the database instance are deleted. Proceed with caution.

    Note

After the feature is disabled for a database instance, no modifications are made to the database instance or the data in the database instance. The database instance still runs as expected in DMS.

  • If you are charged for the feature based on the pay-as-you-go billing method, you continue to be charged for the feature after the feature is disabled. In this case, you can unsubscribe from the feature. For more information, see Unsubscribe from billable features.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the DMS console V5.0.
  2. Disable the sensitive data protection feature for a database instance.

    • Disable this feature on the homepage of the DMS console

      1. In the left-side navigation pane of the homepage, right-click the database instance that you want to manage and click Edit.

      2. In the Basic Information section of the Edit dialog box, deselect Sensitive Data Protection.

      3. Click Save.

    • Disable this feature on the Sensitive Data Assets page

      1. Move the pointer over the 2023-01-28_15-57-17.png icon in the upper-left corner and choose All Features > Security and Specifications (DBS) > Sensitive Data > Sensitive Data Assets.

        Note

If you use the DMS console in normal mode, choose Security and Specifications (DBS) > Sensitive Data > Sensitive Data Assets in the top navigation bar.

      2. In the Instance List section of the Sensitive Data Assets page, click the Enabled tab. Select Authorized from the authorization drop-down list.

      3. Find the database instance that you want to manage and choose More > Disable Sensitive Data Protection in the Operation column.

      4. In the Prompt message, click OK.
