Upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name - CDN

Dynamic Content Delivery Network (DCDN) provides application acceleration, edge computing, and security protection capabilities. If you want to upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name, you can perform the upgrade by using the Alibaba Cloud CDN console. This topic describes how to upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name.

Scenarios

DCDN accelerates delivery of dynamic content over HTTP, HTTPS, and WebSocket at the application layer, and accelerates content delivery over TCP and UDP at the transport layer. DCDN accelerates delivery of static and dynamic content and provides security and computing capabilities at the edge. If your domain name has one of the following requirements, you can upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name:

Acceleration of dynamic content at the application layer: If all or most resources that are requested are dynamic resources and need to be retrieved from the origin server, you can use DCDN to accelerate delivery of dynamic content at the application layer.
Layer-4 acceleration: If you want to accelerate content delivery over TCP or UDP at the transport layer for your domain name, you can use IP Application Accelerator (IPA) that is provided by DCDN.
Edge security: If your domain name requires security protection at the edge, you can use Web Application Firewall (WAF) and DDoS mitigation that are provided by DCDN.

Usage notes

Billing:
- Alibaba Cloud CDN charges the fees that are generated before the upgrade. DCDN charges the fees that are generated after the upgrade. For more information about DCDN billing, see Overview.
- If you are charged based on the monthly bandwidth, such as the monthly 95th percentile bandwidth, the peak bandwidth is generated for Alibaba Cloud CDN before the upgrade and for DCDN after the upgrade. We recommend that you upgrade to DCDN at the beginning or end of a month.
- By default, the dynamic content delivery feature is enabled after you upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name. Requests for dynamic content may be generated. For more information about the billing rules, see Billing of HTTPS and HTTP requests or QUIC requests.
Historical data: After you upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name, you cannot query historical data that is generated before the upgrade, such as log data, monitoring data, and metering data, in DCDN.
Suggestions: If the domain name for which you want to upgrade is still generating traffic in Alibaba Cloud CDN, we recommend that you upgrade to DCDN during off-peak hours. If you want to upgrade to DCDN for multiple domain names, upgrade to DCDN for the domain name that generates the least traffic and verify the result before you upgrade to DCDN for other domain names.
Resource management: After you upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for a domain name, all resource groups and tags that are associated with the domain name in Alibaba Cloud CDN are disassociated.
Limits on accounts:
- Limits on Resource Access Management (RAM) users: You can upgrade to DCDN for your domain name only when you log on to the Alibaba Cloud CDN console with an Alibaba Cloud account. If you log on to the Alibaba Cloud CDN console as a RAM user, you cannot see the upgrade button.
- Limits on special accounts: For some special accounts such as accounts whose bandwidth exceeds 500 Gbit/s or accounts that have special configurations, you cannot upgrade to DCDN for your domain name. In this case, you cannot see the upgrade button in the Alibaba Cloud CDN console.
SSL certificates: After you upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for a domain name, the SSL certificate is still associated with the domain name in Alibaba Cloud CDN. To facilitate management, we recommend that you upload the SSL certificate to DCDN and associate the certificate with the domain name again. This operation is optional. You can use DCDN as expected even if you do not associate the SSL certificate with the domain name.

Restrictions

Account status: If you have not activated DCDN, your account has overdue payments, or the number of domain names that you added to DCDN exceeds the limit, you cannot upgrade to DCDN for a domain name.
Domain name configuration: If you have configured features that are not supported by DCDN in Alibaba Cloud CDN for a domain name, you cannot upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for the domain name.
Note
When you upgrade to DCDN for a domain name, the system verifies whether the domain name meets the upgrade conditions. After the verification is passed, you can add the domain name to DCDN. For more information, see Verify the configuration.

Procedure

Log on to the Alibaba Cloud CDN console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Domain Names.
Upgrade to DCDN for a domain name.
- Method 1: On the Domain Names page, find the domain name that you want to manage and choose > Upgrade to DCDN in the Actions column.
- Method 2:
  1. On the Domain Names page, find the domain name that you want to manage and click Manage.
  2. In the Basic Information section, click Upgrade to DCDN next to Workload Type.
Verify the configuration.
Follow the instructions in the panel that appears. The system verifies the account and domain name. After the verification is passed, proceed to the deployment step.
Click Quick Deployment.
After the account and domain name are verified, you need to pre-deploy DCDN for the domain name. This process takes at most 5 minutes to complete. You can refresh the deployment status on the page. If you close the page, you do not need to repeat the deployment. If you do not pre-deploy DCDN for the domain name, you cannot proceed to the next step.
Click Confirm to upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name.
After the upgrade is complete, click Finish and Go to DCDN to view the upgrade details in the DCDN console.
