As your workload grows or shrinks, you can adjust the reserved computing resources and reserved storage resources of an AnalyticDB for MySQL Data Lakehouse Edition cluster to match demand and control costs.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure that:
Your Alibaba Cloud account has no unpaid renewal orders
The cluster is in the Running state
Limitations
You cannot change a cluster from Data Lakehouse Edition to Data Warehouse Edition.
Before you scale
Scaling up (adding computing or storage resources) improves query performance and increases capacity. Scale up before heavy data loading operations or during peak business hours to accommodate more concurrent queries.
Scaling down (reducing resources) lowers costs during off-peak periods. Before scaling down, note the following:
Scaling triggers data migration for redistribution. Migration time is proportional to data volume and can take up to dozens of hours on large clusters.
Impacts during scaling
Scaling operations affect your cluster in the following ways:
| Impact | Details |
|---|---|
| Asynchronous jobs | The SUBMIT JOB statement cannot be used to submit asynchronous jobs while scaling is in progress. Schedule scaling around jobs that depend on this statement. |
| Transient connections | Brief connection interruptions may occur near the end of the scaling process. Scale during off-peak hours, or configure your application to reconnect automatically. |
| Progress monitoring | After triggering a configuration change, track progress on the Clusters or Task Center page. |
Scale up a cluster
Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console. In the upper-left corner, select a region. In the left-side navigation pane, click Clusters. On the Clusters page, click an edition tab, find the cluster, and then click Scale Up in the Actions column.
On the Upgrade/Downgrade page, configure one or more of the following parameters: Reserved Computing Resources, Reserved Storage Resource Specifications, Reserved Storage Resources, or ESSD Performance Level.
Reserved storage resource specifications can be changed to 8 AnalyticDB compute units (ACUs), 12 ACUs, or 16 ACUs. To change to 24 ACUs or more, submit a ticket.
Complete the purchase:

Pay-as-you-go cluster: Read and select the Terms of Service, and then click Buy Now.
Scale down a cluster
Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console. In the upper-left corner, select a region. In the left-side navigation pane, click Clusters. On the Clusters page, click an edition tab, find the cluster, and then choose More > Scale Down in the Actions column.
On the Downgrade page, configure the parameters described in the following table.
Parameter Description Reserved computing resources The cluster's reserved computing resources, measured in ACUs. Each ACU equals 1 core and 4 GB of memory. To scale to 0 ACUs, both the cluster's reserved storage resources and the total reserved computing resources across all resource groups must already be 0 ACUs. To scale down to a target value, the total reserved computing resources across all resource groups must be less than or equal to that target. For example, to scale from 32 ACUs to 16 ACUs, first reduce the total reserved computing resources in all resource groups to 16 ACUs or fewer. Reserved storage resource specifications The single-node storage specification. The minimum value is 8 ACUs (the default when a cluster is created). Changing this parameter resets the Reserved Storage Resources value. Always configure Reserved Storage Resource Specifications before Reserved Storage Resources. Reserved storage resources The total reserved storage resources of the cluster. One set equals Reserved storage resource specifications x 3 nodes. Cannot be scaled down to 0 ACUs. ESSD performance level The Enterprise SSD (ESSD) performance level. Valid values: PL1, PL2, PL3. Complete the purchase:
Subscription cluster: Read and select the Terms of Service, click Buy Now, confirm the order and payment method, and then click Subscribe.
Pay-as-you-go cluster: Read and select the Terms of Service, and then click Buy Now.
