Data Management:Expiration and overdue payments

Last Updated:Mar 30, 2026

When a paid DMS control mode or the sensitive data protection feature expires or becomes overdue, DMS randomly disables one or more database instances using that mode or feature. This page explains what is affected and how to re-enable disabled instances.

Disabling an instance in DMS only restricts DMS access. The database instance remains fully available to other Alibaba Cloud services.

Service expiration

Service expiration applies to control modes and features purchased using the subscription billing method.

When a quota is exhausted after expiration, DMS randomly disables one or more instances managed under that mode or feature.

Affected item What happens How to resolve
Stable Change mode DMS randomly disables one or more instances in Stable Change mode. See Resolve disabled instances (service expiration).
Security Collaboration mode DMS randomly disables one or more instances in Security Collaboration mode. See Resolve disabled instances (service expiration).
Sensitive data protection DMS randomly disables one or more instances that have sensitive data protection enabled. See Resolve disabled instances (service expiration).
To view why an instance was disabled and how to re-enable it, see Disable or enable database instances. For renewal steps, see Renew chargeable DMS items.

Overdue payments

Overdue payments affect control modes and features purchased using the pay-as-you-go billing method. When your Alibaba Cloud account has an overdue payment, the affected mode or feature becomes overdue and DMS randomly disables one or more instances under that quota.

Affected item What happens How to resolve
Stable Change mode DMS randomly disables one or more instances in Stable Change mode. See Resolve disabled instances (overdue payments).
Security Collaboration mode DMS randomly disables one or more instances in Security Collaboration mode. See Resolve disabled instances (overdue payments).
Sensitive data protection DMS randomly disables one or more instances that have sensitive data protection enabled. See Resolve disabled instances (overdue payments).

Resolve disabled instances (service expiration)

For Stable Change mode or Security Collaboration mode

Use one of the following options:

  • Increase the quota. Then re-enable the disabled instances.

    Important

Increasing the quota may change the previous configuration of the affected instances.

  • Switch the disabled instances to Flexible Management. Change the control mode of the disabled instances to Flexible Management, then re-enable them.

  • Free up quota from other instances. Change the control mode of one or more active instances in the same mode to Flexible Management. This releases quota, allowing you to re-enable the disabled instances.

For instructions on changing the control mode, see Change the control mode of an instance.

For sensitive data protection

Use one of the following options:

  • Increase the quota. Then re-enable the disabled instances.

    Important
