Add a domain name

If your domain name or subdomain is not registered in Alibaba Cloud, you must add the primary domain or subdomain in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console before using Alibaba Cloud DNS.

Domain name registered in Alibaba Cloud

If your domain name is registered in Alibaba Cloud, you do not need to add the domain name in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console. After the domain name is registered, you can log on to the Domain console and click Resolve in the Actions column of the domain name to manage DNS records.

1 . Log on to the Domain console

2 . Find the domain name that you want to resolve, and click Resolve in the Actions column.

3 . On the DNS Settings page, you can add, delete, and modify DNS records.

1 . Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.
2 . In the left-side navigation pane, click Manage DNS. On the Domains tab, click Add Domain Name.

3 . In the Add Domain Name dialog box, enter a primary domain or subdomain, and click OK.

4 . After you add a domain name, it is displayed in the domain name list on the Domains tab.

Delete a domain name

In the Alibaba Cloud DNS console, you can delete a domain name that is not registered in Alibaba Cloud. After you delete the domain name, the DNS records of the domain name are also deleted. In the Alibaba Cloud DNS console, you cannot delete a domain name that is registered in Alibaba Cloud.

Procedure

1 . Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.
2 . In the left-side navigation pane, click Manage DNS. On the Domains tab, click More in the Actions column of the domain name.

3 . Choose Delete from the shortcut menu. On the message that appears, click OK.

Retrieve a domain name

You can retrieve a domain name in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console in the following scenario: When you add a domain name that is not registered in Alibaba Cloud, the system prompts that the domain name has been added by another Alibaba Cloud account. If you are the owner of the domain name, you can retrieve the domain name to the current account. When the domain name is retrieved to the new account, the previous DNS records are deleted.

1 . Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.
2 . In the left-side navigation pane, click Manage DNS. On the Domains tab, click Add Domain Name.

3 . In the Add Domain Name dialog box, the system prompts that the domain name has been added by another Alibaba Cloud account. Click Retrieve Domain Name.

4 . The Verify Domain Name Owner dialog box appears. Copy the TXT record value and do not close the dialog box.

5 . Add the TXT record to the current DNS service provider of this domain name. For example, the DNS service provider of the test domain name is GoDaddy. The following figure shows how to add the TXT record by using Godaddy DNS Manager.

6 . Return to the Verify Domain Name Owner dialog box in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console and click OK. Then, Alibaba Cloud DNS automatically scans the TXT record. If the TXT record is added, an email will be sent to inform you that the domain name is retrieved. The domain name is added to the account that initiated the domain name retrieval request.

Manage domain names in groups

You can manage domain names in groups in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console. You can create and delete a group, edit the group name, and change the group to which a domain name belongs.

1 . Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.
2 . In the left-side navigation pane, click Manage DNS. On the Domains tab, click the ALL drop-down list, and click the plus sign (+).

3 . Enter a group name and click the check mark () to create a group.

Edit a group name and delete a group

1 . In the left-side navigation pane, click Manage DNS. On the Domains tab, click the ALL drop-down list, and click the edit icon next to a group name. Enter a new group name and click the check mark () to save the modification.

2 . Click the delete icon next to a group name. If you delete a group, the domain names in the group are removed. You can view these domain names in the ALL group.

Change the group to which a domain name belongs

You can add a domain name to a specific group or move a domain name from Group A to Group B.

1 . In the left-side navigation pane, click Manage DNS. On the Domains tab, select the domain name that you want to move to a new group, and click Change Group.

2 . In the Change Group dialog box, select a group to which you want to add the domain name, and click OK.

3 . Click the ALL drop-down list, and click the group name to check whether the domain name is moved to the desired group.

Grouping rules

  • The ALL group is the default group defined by the system. The number displayed next to the ALL group indicates the total number of domain names that are managed by Alibaba Cloud DNS. The name of the ALL group cannot be modified or deleted.
  • Domain names are unique in group management, and one domain name cannot be added to multiple groups.
  • If you delete a group, the domain names in the group are removed. You can view these domain names in the ALL group.
  • You can create a maximum of 100 groups for domain names.
  • A group name must be 1 to 20 characters in length.
  • The number of domain names that can be added to a group is unlimited.
  • You cannot query the log of grouping operations.
