Alibaba Cloud's Global Accelerator service enables businesses to increase the efficiency and speed of their applications' connectivity from mainland China. In a nutshell, this product aims to alleviate the problems that many foreign and foreign corporations and brands may encounter when redirecting Chinese users to web applications or mobile apps hosted elsewhere in the world.
Alibaba Cloud's Global Accelerator service can be extremely helpful to many international companies, as setting up services in China may not be an option for them at least temporarily, as going through the process of setting up web services in Mainland China can be lengthy with the application process taking at least one month. Luckily, for this, Alibaba Cloud also offers comprehensive solutions and guidance to help customers enter China. Check out Alibaba Cloud's China Gateway solution, and also check out the ICP filing page for more information about the requirements involved with setting up services in China.
In the meantime, why not start using Global Accelerator to reach your Chinese userbase first? In this tutorial, we're going to help you get started bring your services to China quickly by using Global Accelerator with Source IP Address Persistence. This tutorial can be completed in a matter of just 30 minutes.
In this article, we will show you how to use Alibaba Cloud Global Accelerator to speed up access to overseas servers from China, also compare the speed between AWS endpoint and Alibaba GA.
Verify the end to end network connectivity by:
The result shows that the connection with Alibaba Cloud GA is 0.189ms while the direct connection to the AWS endpoint is 0.442ms. That means we have sped up the connection more than 2 times compared with direct access to the AWS endpoint.
Global Accelerator is a network acceleration service, benefiting from the high-quality bandwidth and global transmission networks that are provided by Alibaba Cloud. Global Accelerator enables nearby access to the Internet and cross-region deployment of applications, improving the user experience of Internet services. Global Accelerator features high network quality, high security, high availability, and low latency. In addition, Global Accelerator can be activated within several minutes, making service deployment more agile.
Each listener is associated with one endpoint group, and each endpoint group contains one or more endpoints.
To associate each endpoint group with a region, you can specify the region to which you want to distribute network traffic. After a listener forwards network traffic to the associated endpoint group based on the association rules, GA distributes network traffic to the optimal endpoints of the endpoint group.
Endpoints can be IP addresses or domain names of origin servers, such as Server Load Balancer (SLB) instances, Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances, and custom origin servers. Alibaba Cloud public IP addresses are supported.
You can set the weight of each endpoint in an endpoint group. The weight specifies the proportion of network traffic that is forwarded to each endpoint. GA calculates the total weight of all endpoints in the endpoint group. Then, GA distributes the data traffic to each endpoint based on the individual weight as a percentage of the total weight.
