ApsaraDB RDS:[Product changes/Feature changes] ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL will rename general ESSD and enhance its capabilities

To deliver superior and more cost-effective database services, ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL has enhanced the capabilities of general ESSD and will rename it Premium ESSD. Premium ESSD introduces support for new features that significantly improve the read/write performance of instances. Additionally, RDS for PostgreSQL offers the data archiving feature for Premium ESSD to help you reduce storage costs and enjoy better services at lower prices.

Storage type renaming

Starting April 27, 2025, general ESSD will be renamed for RDS for PostgreSQL instances.

Note

To provide better usage experience, the effective date of the renaming of the storage types for ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL is changed from April 24, 2025 to April 27, 2025.

Capability enhancement

RDS for PostgreSQL achieves significant improvements in storage performance and cost efficiency through integrated software and hardware optimization.

  • The Buffer Pool Extension (BPE) and I/O performance burst features are supported, which improve the hybrid read/write performance by 15%.

  • The data archiving feature is supported to reduce storage costs.

The I/O perfornance burst feature enables the automatic scaling of maximum IOPS and throughput. The IOPS can be increased to a maximum of 1,000,000.
