ApsaraDB RDS:Set a maintenance window

Last Updated:Mar 30, 2026

The maintenance window controls when the backend system performs maintenance on your ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB instance to ensure its stability. Set the window to off-peak hours to minimize disruption to your workloads. The default window is 02:00–06:00.

Before the maintenance window starts

  • Email notification: Before maintenance begins, the system sends emails to the contacts associated with your Alibaba Cloud account. Check your inbox regularly so you can prepare in advance.

  • Instance state change: The instance enters Maintaining Instance state before the window opens. In this state:

    • Database access and query operations (including performance monitoring) continue normally.

    • Account management, database management, and IP address whitelist configuration remain available.

    • Upgrade, downgrade, and restart operations are temporarily unavailable.

  • Transient connections: One or two transient connections may occur during maintenance. Configure your application to automatically reconnect to the instance.

Set the maintenance window

Procedure

  1. Log on to the ApsaraDB RDS console.

  2. In the upper-left corner, select the region where your instance resides.

  3. Find the instance, then click the instance ID or click Manage in the Actions column.

  4. In the Configuration Information section, click Settings next to Maintenance Window.

  5. Select a maintenance window and click Yes.

The time zone of the displayed maintenance window is the same as that of the computer used to log on to the ApsaraDB RDS console.
