ApsaraDB RDS:Manage ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX instances in the recycle bin

Last Updated:Nov 25, 2025

This topic describes how to manage expired and overdue ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX instances in the recycle bin. You can unlock or destroy these instances in the recycle bin.

Overview

ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX instances enter the recycle bin after they are manually released, expired, or refunded, except for read-only instances.

Unlock an RDS instance whose payment is overdue

If a pay-as-you-go RDS instance is locked due to overdue payments, please check the payment method of your Alibaba Cloud account.

Renew and unlock an RDS instance

If a subscription RDS instance is locked due to expiration, you can renew the RDS instance in the recycle bin.

  1. Log on to the Recycle Bin.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region in which the RDS instance resides.

  3. Find the locked instance and click Unlock to renew the instance.

After the RDS instance is renewed, it is immediately restored to normal.

Rebuild an RDS instance

After a subscription RDS instance expires, it is retained for a specified period of time. After the specified retention period elapses, the system releases the RDS instance. However, the data backup files of the RDS instance can still be retained for eight days. During the eight-day retention period, you can use the instance rebuild feature to restore the data of the RDS instance from data backup files to a new RDS instance. For more information, see Overdue payments.

  1. Log on to the Recycle Bin.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region in which the RDS instance resides.

  3. Find the released instance and click Rebuild.

By default, an instance with the same specifications will be created in the zone where the original instance was located. You can also select another zone and other instance types.

Destroy an RDS instance

Warning

After you destroy an RDS instance, all data backup files of the instance are destroyed. Proceed with caution.

If an RDS instance is locked due to expiration or overdue payments, you can destroy the RDS instance in the recycle bin.

Note

Due to a certain delay in system cache updates, you may not be able to immediately destroy an instance that has just entered the recycle bin. Typically, an instance needs to be in the recycle bin for about 10 minutes before it can be destroyed. Additionally, once an instance enters the recycle bin, related billing stops immediately.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Recycle Bin.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region in which the RDS instance resides.

  3. Find the destination instance and click Destroy.
