Managed Service for OpenTelemetry:Contacts

Last Updated:Mar 11, 2026

Contacts are the people who receive alert notifications from Managed Service for OpenTelemetry. When a notification policy rule triggers, the system sends alerts to the specified contacts by phone, text message, or email.

On the Contacts tab, you can:

  • Create and manage alert contacts

  • Verify mobile numbers for phone and text message notifications

  • Set a default fallback method when phone notifications fail

  • Edit or delete contacts individually or in bulk

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure that you have:

Create a contact

  1. Log on to the Managed Service for OpenTelemetry console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Alert Management > Notification Objects. On the Contacts tab, click Create Contact.

  3. In the dialog box, configure the following parameters and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Name

    The name of the contact.

    Phone Number

The mobile number for phone and text message alerts. Only verified numbers are accepted. For details, see Verify a mobile number.

    Email

The email address for email notifications.

    Contact Group

The contact group to add this contact to. For details, see Contact groups.

Method to Resend Notifications If Phone Notifications Fail

The fallback method when phone notifications fail. To set a global default, see Set a default notification fallback method.

    User ID

The ID from an instant messaging (IM) tool such as DingTalk, Lark, or WeCom. A valid user ID enables mentioning this contact within an IM group. Required for Lark and WeCom group contacts; optional for DingTalk.

    Important
    • Each mobile number and email address can belong to only one contact. Specify at least one of the two.

    • DingTalk chatbots can no longer be added as contacts. To create a DingTalk chatbot, go to the DingTalk/Lark/WeCom tab. For details, see DingTalk chatbots. Existing DingTalk chatbot contacts are not affected.

Verify a mobile number

Before a mobile number can receive phone or text message alerts, it must be verified.

  1. On the Contacts tab, locate the contacts whose mobile numbers need verification.

    • Single contact: Find the contact and click Not verified next to the number.

    • Multiple contacts: Select the contacts and click Verify Mobile Numbers.

The system sends a verification text message to each selected contact.

  2. Each contact opens the URL in the text message using a browser.

  3. On the verification page, the contact confirms the number and clicks Verify.

Set a default notification fallback method

If phone notifications fail, the system resends alerts through an alternative channel. Set a global default fallback method that applies to all contacts unless overridden at the individual contact level.

  1. On the Contact tab, choose More Operations > Contact Default Configuration.

  2. In the dialog box, select a fallback method and click OK.

  • Delete a contact: In the Actions column, click Delete. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.

  • Delete multiple contacts: Select the contacts, click Batch Delete, and confirm by clicking OK.
