Managed Service for OpenTelemetry:Contact groups

Last Updated:Mar 11, 2026

Contact groups let you organize contacts into teams that receive alert notifications together. Instead of adding individual contacts to each notification policy, assign a contact group as the notification target. When a matching rule triggers, all contacts in the group are notified through the configured channels.

Supported notification channels:

  • Phone

  • Text message

  • Email

  • DingTalk message

How it works

The alerting workflow in Managed Service for OpenTelemetry connects four objects:

Contact --> Contact group --> Notification policy --> Alert rule
  1. Create individual contacts with their notification details (phone number, email address, DingTalk account).

  2. Organize contacts into contact groups based on team or responsibility.

  3. Create a notification policy and assign one or more contact groups to it.

  4. When an alert rule triggers and matches the notification policy, all contacts in the assigned groups are notified.

Prerequisite

Before you begin, make sure that you have:

  • Contacts with configured notification details

Create a contact group

  1. Log on to the Managed Service for OpenTelemetry console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Alert Management > Notification Objects.

  3. On the Contacts tab, click Create Contact Group.

  4. In the Create Contact Group dialog box, configure the following parameters and click OK.

    ParameterDescription
Group NameA name that identifies the contact group.
Alert ContactsThe contacts to add to this group.
    Note

The new contact group appears in the list on the left side of the Contacts tab.

Edit, view, or delete a contact group

On the Contacts tab, you can perform the following operations on contact groups:

OperationSteps
Edit a contact groupClick More icon > Edit Group. Modify the group name or contacts, then click OK.
View contact group detailsClick Down arrow to the left of the contact group to expand its details.
Delete a contact groupClick More icon > Delete Group. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
Important
  • Before you delete a contact group, make sure it is not assigned to any notification policy. If you delete a contact group that is in use, the corresponding alert notifications cannot be delivered.

  • You can only delete contact groups created under the current account.
